Blinds? How to wash them

I am in the process of cleaning our house from top to bottom. My DH is out of town for the next 4 weeks..

I am trying to get our blind clean.. Someone please tell me how to clean them without doing any harm to them

Re: Blinds? How to wash them

  • I just dust them most of the time.  Depending on what they're made of, wiping them down with a damp sponge or cloth would work.

  • It depends on what kind of blinds they are. If they're venetian (horizontal), you can take them outside, lay them on your driveway and hose them down, if they're roman (fabric) you can remove the strings and slats and wash them in the machine, or leave the strings and slats on and wash them in your bathtub.

  • Totally depends on the material.

Vinyl - put them in the bathtub to wash them or take them outside and hose them down.

Aluminum - same as vinyl... but be careful with your fingers. The slats are thin and can slice your finger open.

Faux or real wood - hand wash and dry each slat while they're hanging.

Fabric - see if you can take them apart and wash the material.

  • I  have faux wood and I just took lysol wipes and wiped down each slat while they were open.  It was tedious.
