OMG! Freaking out!!

When my photographer dropped off the CD of my photos yesterday, there weren't any reception photos on it. I called her and we figured out the CD had just been full and she didn't realize it. Fast forward to today, she calls me and says apparently the files are corrupt and she has tried to restore them and it's not working. She's taking her computer in right now. I'm freaking out!! All of my reception photos could be gone!! Please send some vibes my way. She's supposed to call after she leaves the store...tears...

  • She took her computer into the Apple store and they said there is nothing they can do because a Mac registers the corrupt files as viruses so they can't be recovered. Ughhh. I don't even know what to think. I'm not mad at her, I'm mad at the situation. I just don't understand why she wouldn't have a backup saved. Sigh...

  • That's terrible. I'm sorry. She should really call apple & verify that information with them, not take the word of the store she purchased it from.

I also find it difficult to believe she a) didn't check your disc before she gave it to you, incomplete b) doesn't have a 2nd disc burned before she moved her files c) doesn't have a backup recovery disc of all of her work. If that is all the case, she definitely needs to reconsider her protocols. Obviously this won't help you, but those are all terrible practices for a photographer.

If she truly can't find a way to recover your photos, I would be asking for a significant refund/decrease in the bill. It basically equates to her not providing ___# of hours of service, let alone the fact that you no longer have those photos.

FWIW, a local photo developing store ruined the photos of my high school graduation (back in the days before digital cameras). 10 rolls of film, and 10 photos weren't ruined - about another 20 became fuzzy black & whites, due to their developing machine getting stuck. They blew up all of those 10 photos for me, and framed them. In addition, I received 10 additional rolls of film, and $200 worth of free developing. I think your photographer owes you.

  • Oh my gosh, I feel so bad for you! That is horrible, and I know I would be so so upset if our reception pictures were gone. :( Sending hugs and calming thoughts your way. And I definitely agree with mrs.jesse, you deserve some kind of compensation. You should not have had to deal with this, and she should have had protocols in place to deal with worst case scenarios such as this. :(

  • That is so horrible!  And I thought it was bad that my photographer missed our first kiss.  That doesn't even compare!  Definitely ask for some sort of refund or compensation.  I'm not one to try and get free things out of every little error but this one is huge and she really does owe you.  Those are pictures that can never be replaced!

Also, did you have any friends or family taking pictures at your reception?  I would try tracking them all down so that you at least have something.  *Hugs*!
