Birth order and your personality

A professor I once had was all about birth order and how it forms personality.  This site gives a good summary of traits, organized by birth order.

Do the descriptions fit your personality (or your DC/DH)?   For fun: list the trait in each category that best describes you.

  • I'm a first born and I think I fit more in with the "aggressive" traits.  I very much always want things my way.

My H is a "middle child" (#2 of 4) and he is most definitely "middle born #2".

    • Outgoing
    • Friendly
    • Laid back
    • Patient

    All of these fit him.

  • I'm the oldest of the biological children and I fit the first born to a tee almost. LOL

    • Risk takers - Nope
    • Idealists  -to a degree
    • Good sense of humor - I think (hope) so
    • Hard working - Yes
    • Immature -nope
    • Attention seeking  -nope
    • Secretive  -I was going to answer no, but after thinking about it, I tend to keep things to myself as not to upset people, make the made, or worry.  Would that be secretive or reserved?
    • Sensitive - to a degree.

For strengths it says caring but weakness it says self-centered.  empathetic but  manipulative

  • I'm an only. Traits: Trust their own opinion, - mostly prompt, 99% of the time ambitious, - not a whole lot enterprising, - not in my opinion energetic, - sure can be set goals, - set them yes good problem solvers, - fairly good ambitious - I sure haven't felt it lately Weakness: Self-Centered - can be fearful of trying new things, - not really criticize themselves and others, - yep worry too much, - yep feel they are always right, - mostly inflexible, - sort of and too busy to see the big picture. - there's a big picture? lol Oh and FYI, DH is a first born. We have a fun house.
  • I'm a first-born.  I think I trend more toward the aggressive traits - always want things my way, perfectionist, very driven.  I do crave approval, which is from the compliant traits.

The trait in each category that best describes me:

Aggressive traits: Always want things my way

    Compliant: Crave approval

    Common: Scholarly

My husband is also a first-born, and he is very definitely in the compliant trait category: nurturer, caregiver, reliable, etc, are all him.

Haha we picked exactly the same traits to describe ourselves!  :)   I've heard having a spouse in the same birth order can cause some conflict- have you found that to be the case?   I'm an oldest and DH is the youngest and I think it mostly works to our advantage, except when he teases me like he used to tease his older sister. Then I get annoyed b/c he reminds me of my annoying little brother lol.

I think it usually works well for us because we're almost opposite first-borns - I have more of the aggressive traits; he has more of the compliant traits.  We're both pretty stubborn, though, so if we both decide we want to be right, there can be some heated debates.  Luckily, we usually see pretty eye-to-eye on important things, and even when we don't, we've gotten pretty good at only arguing for a few minutes before getting into normal discussions about what's best for us instead of me.  We're also both pretty logical, so that helps when we both want a different solution - it's like writing a persuasive essay every time we disagree...the person who can support their argument the best wins.  Now that I think about it, that's probably some combination of our "driven" and "team player" characteristics coming out...it's a good thing we're driven in the same direction!

  • I totally am in line with the oldest child...and my sister is mostly aligned with the youngest. But I'm not so sure about my brother and the middle child.

  • I am pretty typical oldest child, I think.  I meet almost all of the characteristics for "compliant" and most of the common traits too.
  • I'm the last born so:

Risk takers - Nope.  The idea of parachuting or anything along those lines makes me pee a little. Idealists - Absolutely. Good sense of humor - If laughing at farts is considered having a good sense of humor. Hard working - When I'm not wasting time on websites like the Nest I suppose. Immature - See "laughing at farts" comment. Attention seeking - Usually when I publicly humiliate myself I would prefer LESS people to be watching. Secretive - Not really, I have no shame. Sensitive - To sunlight, yes, I tend to burn easily. Ba-dum ching!
