Mommies - baby sign?

Are any of you doing baby sign with your kiddos? I picked up a book today at the library and want to start doing it with Emmy. I think it will be very helpful so that she can communicate with me, esp when the new baby comes.

What has your experience been? any tips? Was it pretty easy for them to pick up?

Re: Mommies - baby sign?

  • I plan to do it. My nephew does it and he's got lots of signs. He's got really developed speech now too for not being a year yet and I think the signing helps with that.
  • Luke signs! we love it. This is prly a good age to start with Emmy. Don't give up if she doesn't sign back for a while. She will learn to understand you before she can sign back. I started w/ Luke around 9 months and he signed back at 9 months.

I've totally slacked with Vivi, but she does sign 'nurse' and 'more'.

There is a baby signs kit we use by a company called Baby Signs. I like it! I also found flashcards at target. I would pick 4-5 and stick them on the fridge. We's use those until Luke learned them then we'd pick new ones.

     Good luck and have fun!

  • no tips , but my sister does baby sign with my niece. it is totally cute. she knows a lot of words, but i've seen her on video respond with please, thank you and more. the "more" one is good when feeding her :)
