Where are you guys going for your 1st year anniversary?

Hey guys!

I was just wondering if you guys know what you are doing or where you are going to celebrate your 1st anniversary with DH.  I know someone on here already booked their trip...I can't remember who.  I am just trying to get some ideas, as well as come up with a budget!

I can't believe that we've all been married 4 and almost 4 months! Time is flying!  :)

Re: Where are you guys going for your 1st year anniversary?

  • I guess you could call this an anniversary trip since we're going a week after our anniversary, but we're going to FL to visit all my cousins down there. C&J were the only ones in FL that were able to make the wedding so when we go he can see the others that he met in PA along with meeting the rest of the ones there he hasn't met yet. :) No paying for a hotel. :)

  • Well, we wanted to rent a cabin for a week in CO, but the cabin we really wanted is booked for that week...so we are back to the planning board...

The options we have come up with so far are:
    1) San Deigo (I have been and loved it there...DH has never been)
    2) Orlando (we both have been there and want to go back)
    3) Las Vegas (DH really likes this idea, but I am not feeling it for our first anniversary).

More than likely we will go back to Orlando. I hope we can book something now so we can pay it off over the next 8 months.

  • DH and I would both love love love to go back to New Orleans (our honeymoon was there) but I doubt $$$ and work will allow it. We'll probably just do a long weekend in Miami or the Keys.
  • I had wanted to go to the Dominican Republic but I don't think that is going to happen because we are saving up money to rebuild our deck next summer.  I think we are going to do a staycation or a weekend getaway.  Hopefull we can take the trip next fall because that's when we want to start TTC.

  • Top of the list is St. Thomas, USVI, for a couple of reasons:

    1. We spent Easter there 6 years ago, and totally loved it - and Easter will fall during that same time in 2011...

    2. We didn't do a "real" HM...we took more of a "mini-moon" for 4days/3nights on the Carolina coast, and we were planning to take our real HM later in the year, but then I got my new job and we had to shelve that plan because I wouldn't have the vaca time built up yet to do anything before next spring, anyway...

So, if all goes as we'd like, it's looking like St. Thomas for our anniversary trip!

  • We're planning on either going to SF or Chicago for a long weekend. Not sure yet
  • We have a couple of ideas. Here they are Niagra Falls the Canadian side, Las Vegas, or possibly staying at the hotel we had our wedding at (it's sooooo beautiful, and nice) and doing a little replay of our wedding weekend (order cake from our baker, go out for a nice meal, they have a spa and pool there etc etc).  I would LOVE to go to Boston or Chicago though.  However I feel like it would be expensive to go there.  Not sure. Does anybody have suggestions on inexpensive places to stay?  All of your ideas sound great!

  • @ Kristi - I've been to Boston, Chicago and Vegas - so if you have any specific questions after researching hotels, let me know!

We are most likely going to Aruba around the time of our one year anniv.  When we planned our honeymoon, we had a hard time deciding between Aruba and the Bahamas - so we figured we'll do one for the HM and one for the anniversary!!!  Let's cross our fingers that our budget allows for it - but as of right now, that's the plan!!

  • We are thinking of hitting Washington DC (cherry blossoms!)
  • On our one year anniversary I will either be pregnant or undergoing fertility treatments, so it's tough for me to plan that far ahead.  We're talking about taking a nice vacation in January or February next year, so for our anniversary we'll probably stay local.  The venue where we got married is a nice restaurant so we've talking about going there for our anniversary dinner.  Or we may stay overnight at a nice local-ish B&B.

  • I'm not sure, it's not something we've talked about yet. However, I doubt we'll be able to do a big trip, probably just a weekend getaway. Possibly NYC, DC or maybe the beach for a long weekend.

  • @Allison

I would love any info you have. I just went on Expedia and did a trip from Monday-Friday and it didn't look too bad, of course that's not adding food and other things into the mix.  Do you know what locations are the best places to stay for attractions etc.?  I saw a couple of reasonable places on the Magnificent Mile (which I think is a good place, according to Oprah LOL) :)  The prices ranged from $400ish per person to over $1000. this includes flight.

  • Since I'm still in school and we're planning to purchase a house by July, we're going to do something a bit low key.  I can only go at the end of March, because that's when my spring break is.  DH had not been any further east than FL and west than Indiana when we starting dating (we're in Ohio), and I got to take him to Hawaii, but we literally missed everything in between us and HI.  So...

    1. South Carolina (where half my heart is)

    2. Northern Cali (it's more "us")

    3. New Orleans (where the other half of my heart is)

With weather being icky in March, I'm hoping to go south and enjoy a few Hand Grenades :o)

  • We originally thought about Jamaica, then Savannah (but we heard bad things about the food we wanted to try) so now we're thinking a long weekend in San Francisco. Neither of us have been and I've never been to the west coast at all, so it's at the top of our list. We're trying to save up vacation time, which is why we nixed Jamaica (because we would want to stay for a week) and money because we want to TTC in the fall. We know San Fran will not be cheap either, but the appeal is a big draw. We thought about trying to do the whole thing in cash so we'll feel not so bad about it.

  • During the honeymoon and right after, we were talking about going back to Jamaica(where we had our honeymoon). But then DH tore his achilles and had to have surgery and took out a huge chunk of our savings. So then we were thinking a long weekend in NY or Chicago. But then DH lost a little of his paycheck due to changing positions and I am in grad school so it probably won't happen. Right now it is looking like we might just spend the night in a nice hotel. I mean we could afford going elsewhere but because of him getting hurt, I am paranoid about not having huge savings/emergency funds because you never know what is going to happen.

  • With the help of God, we will be pregnant by then.

We would love to rent a beach house in alabama....

but we would love even more to be pregnant..

So... im thinking no vaction. Instead we will go to the restruant we had the rehearsal dinner... and then to the honeymoon suite we stayed at on our wedding night.

  • @ Kristi--We went to Chicago for our HM and loved it.  I think we only spent around $1000 total (but we drove).  We stayed at the Country Inns & Suites by O'hare and LOVED our hotel. PM me if you want more info.  You can certainly do Chicago for cheaper than that.

Since I am not working right now and I will hopefully be pregnant then, I doubt we will go anywhere big.  We talked about going to Disney since we couldn't afford it for our HM, but haven't really done the research.  Plus, Easter is a big holiday for our families so we probably won't go anywhere that weekend expect to a nice dinner somewhere.

  • I would love to go back to Jamaica (same place as the honeymoon) every year at that time of year- the weather was perfect! Not counting on that happening though. DH has to get a job and who knows what kind of vacation time he'd have. :-P I hate having things up in the air.

  • We will be going to Disney World for our 1st anniversary. He hasn't been since he was a kid, and I am just so anxious to go there and experience it as an adult, with my real life prince charming (ah I'm corny!) and I want to go before we start our family and enjoy it as an adult.

Plus, we got a gift card for a Disney vacation from our Best Man for our wedding gift, so it's a perfect trip for us to take!  Hm maybe we can even have dinner in Cinderella's castle... I can't wait :)

  • Like some others, we are hoping to be pregnant around that time, don't know where in the pregnancy we will be, so no plans for a big anniversary vacation.  But the plan is every other year to take a trip just me and DH and the opposite year a trip with my DS and any other children who come about.  So this next summer, we will probably go somewhere with kid(s).  The following year, we may do Vegas or a west coast trip to Portland, Seattle and Vancouver (that is what we really want to do and we have friends/family in two of those areas, so save some money there).

  • DH's fam invited us to Hilton Head for April Vacation so we will be in SC!  I've never been so I'm pretty excited!  We are going with a bunch of his family but they are all fun so it should be a great time!  We'll prob do a dinner alone on our actual anniversary.
