...and the saga continues...
He's scheduled for surgery again this afternoon to remove some additional tissue that has died. He'll then be fitted for a wound vac to help facilitate faster healing and have home care nurses every other day to change the dressings. This will be a nice change from me chauffeuring him to a doctor's office daily (all of which have been 30-45 min each way). Healing time with the wound vac will be a week and a half to three weeks, then it's likely that he'll need a skin graft. It's looking like he won't be back to work until the middle of September at the earliest. ![]()
As a result of the lengthened healing time, our vacation to see my family in Maine is in jeopardy. The plastic surgeon said he'd be fine, but would need to take the wound vac along with him and I would have to change the dressings and such. H isn't too excited about that option and doesn't want to yet rule out the possibility that we won't be able to attend the reunion. It's been almost five years since I've seen this side of my family and I really don't want to miss the opportunity. Most of them live within the Boston region and are the cousins of my late mother. She was super close to them growing up and continued to foster the relationships as I grew up.
BFF had her baby last night at around 1:30am. Her baby girl was doing well, but I only got to see her for a few seconds before she was whisked away to the nursery. I was pretty bummed that I didn't get to see her longer, but will have lots of time once they are home. I got home at about 4am and slept until 8. Now H and I are off to the surgery center. I think I'm going to sleep well tonight!
Re: Update on H and BFF had her baby! (long, sorry)
I'm so sorry that your husband's surgery plan is dragging on. That is great news about the wound vac though! Those things are amazing! We use them on turtles that have been hit by cars or boats and they make the healing time so much faster and easier! It also means a lot fewer bandage changes! I'm sorry about your family vacay in Maine being in Jeopardy. I wouldn't let the wound vac be the only reason you don't go though. They are super easy to operate once you get the hang of them.
Horray for your BFF! I'm so glad that her baby girl is doing well.
