Finished my cleaning schedule

With so many changes in our life lately (my husband's school is over, we just moved into a new home, our baby has turned into a 15 month old, etc) our cleaning schedule first got tossed to the wayside and then when we went back to it found it didn't work for us anymore.

 So I took a couple of weeks to see how our daily/weekly flow was and sat down to make a schedule. There are always questions about them here so I figured I'd write mine up.

I *live* by google calendars.  You can set things for more than 'every monday' or 'every 15th'. You can do weekdays only, the 12th thursday of the year, every 5th weekend of a month, etc.

First, a couple of things:

*  To give a preemptive apology- I love making lists and scheduling things. This is going to get long.

* As with life, it's a constant work in progress.

* It may seem like a lot or that it's overly complicated but a) it's really not and b) I can't stress enough how much help google calendars is in keeping all this straight.

 DAILY:

* Dishes (put away clean, load dirty, wash the ones that don't go in the dishwasher)

* General kitchen clean up

* General rooms pick up (stuff from the morning, our son's room, the living room, wipe down the sinks)

MONDAY: NOTHING

* This is the day where we either finish the weekend chores we didn't have time for, clean something early if we're going out on that scheduled night, or just relax)

TUESDAY: BATHROOMS

* We have two but neither require an habitual hard clean so one Tuesday I'll do the mirrors/toilets (mirrors are easy, toilets are hard) and the next I'll do the tub/shower (tub is easy, shower is hard).

WEDNESDAY: LAUNDRY

* One load, no more. If I try to do more I'll never finish and a wet load will sit in the washer until Saturday. Gross.

THURSDAY: MISC/MEALS

* 1st Thurs of month - change air filters

* 2nd Thurs of month - update iPod

 * 3rd Thursday - clean out the fridge

* Every Thursday - meal plan

FRIDAY: KITCHEN

* 1st and 3rd - clean oven/microwave

* 2nd - mop

* 4th -  dust living room

* Every Friday -  sweep

SATURDAY: OUTSIDE

Re: Finished my cleaning schedule

  • Thanks for sharing!  I will have to check out google calendars!
    Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I knew I'd forget something!

    If you do use google calendars, take advantage of their colour coding system. For example, all my cleaning is in green and all the meals I plan for the week are in orange. Makes it easier to find things I'm looking for at a glance.

  • Good list, thanks for sharing.  I could definitely improve on my seasonal cleaning schedule.  I share your love of lists and planning, although definitely not your follow-through.  I always get thrown off by a couple busy nights and lose my rhythm.  Thanks for the inspiration. :)
  • I love, love, love lists, love google (gmail and google reader)  and my house is a mess, so this is great!

    *off to figure out google calandar*

    Thanks.
