As I mentioned in my ground beef post, we're having fridge/freezer trouble. We got the freezer to stabalize at a good refrigerator temp until we have time to get a replacement but last night I noticed the temperature was creeping up. This morning it was at 45 degrees so I packed up the meat for DH to put in the freezer at the church. For the most part everything that's left shows visible signs of going bad (cheese, bread, berries, etc...). I have several containers of pumpkin puree that has been frozen that I was planning on making pumpkin butter with soon. Do any of you know how to tell when it's gone bad? I'm not sure if it gets moldy, has an odor, or if it's a food that's hard to tell if it's bad.
I've thrown so much away already that it hurts to throw this away too but I'll totally do it rather than risk giving someone food poisoning. The temp was at 42 when I went to bed last night and was at 45 when I left this morning so it'll probably be at or below 50 degrees when I get home tonight.
If you know how to tell if it's bad, let me know. Or let me know what your gut impulse would be if you were in this situation. Thanks!
