Wow. So incredibly sad...
I hate to speculate.. but I can't help but wonder if it was PTSD-related from combat? Or if it isn't.. what would cause a person to do such a horrible thing?

I thought that too.
It's very devastating, I heard it on the news this morning. It's extremely heartbreaking. The family getting ready for such a happy occasion in life (new baby), now has to say goodbye to so many loved ones.
I think that's what they are thinking. My co-worker was an acquaintance of theirs, and she said they seemed like a normal couple, but he seemed a little off since he returned from Iraq. My heart hurts when I think about how much this sucks.

This totally makes me sick to my stomach that this happened, and things like this continue to happen...just last week there was one in Eagan and that hit really close to home because the IL's live in that community and we see the kids and drive past that house all the time, and to think now that one of the kids doesn't have any parents, and two other kids will never really grow up with their father!
I can't wrap my mind around why things could get so bad that people have to do this sort of thing...is it really that hard to reach out for help??? I mean if I were that upset and having those kind of thoughts I would hope that I would seek the help of a licensed professional before it went that far. As a parent and a pet parent it just makes me so sad that he took everyone even the dogs lives!

It is really unbelievable how many soldiers come back from Iraq with PTSD and don't/can't receive help. I remember hearing a story awhile ago about a soldier who sought help several times at the VA for PTSD, but was turned away because they have too many patients. He ended up committing suicide shortly after that. I really wish that help was more readily available for these soldiers because of what they have had to deal with while fighting for our country.
I'm late to reply, but agreed. I am a student at St. Cloud State, and because SCSU has so many veterans on campus, the University is trying to raise awareness of PTSD. There are posters and signs all over campus, on city buses and on the parking shuttle bus that basically say "if you need help, we can help".
I feel so terrible for that family. I can't even begin to imagine that pain.
