Rental Car Question

*Possibly a stupid question*

The hubs and I booked our flights for the west coast. Big Smile

From Philly, we are flying into San Diego - where we anticipate getting a rental car.  We will possibly stay in the San Diego area for two days, and then travel up north to LA, stay there for two days.  We will then drive to Las Vegas.  We will be flying home from to Philly, from Las Vegas.

Question - If we rent a car in San Diego, CA - can we drop it off in another state, NV?  I'm assuming we'll go with hertz or enterprise or some known rental car agency.

Has anyone done this?

Re: Rental Car Question

  • I think you can but you will most likely pay extra for it.

  • You can so long as you book a one-way rental.  Most car rental agencies have them available in big cities.  We did the same thing when we went to CA last fall - flew into LA, rented a car, drove to San Diego and flew home from there.  Vegas is a big enough destination that you should be able to do it without too many problems, but it will likely cost a little more than a normal rental.  We rented through Enterprise when we did it but I've also done it with Hertz but I did have a Hertz gold card at the time because I worked for Ford so not sure if that made a difference.
  • You can. You'll pay extra for not bringing it back to where you got it from. Be clear with the rental place that you intend to return it elsewhere when you make the arrangements.
