Still feeling new to this town

Hello,

My husband and I recently got married this year and we have been relocated to Rio Rancho, NM for his job. I work at nearby physical therapy clinic and enjoy it. However we dont get out much because we dont have any friends here.

I'm a huge people person and having no friends here suck, lol. I live in an old neighborhood so not so many young couples.

Whats there to do in this town?? Any ideas??

Re: Still feeling new to this town

  • I wish I knew the secret to finding groups of friends in NM.  I think you just have to be a joiner for a while. Meaning go out and join some groups that do activities you like, join alumni groups, join neighborhood associations, etc. and see who you meet.

One thing I've found about NM is that it's harder to find out about activities.  Start by looking at the Alibi and Local IQ calendars.  Go to concerts, go to hiking groups, go to plays, etc. And just start talking to people...

  • Welcome to the board (and to NM)!  I agree with Flame about looking in the Alibi and local magazines.  In addition, if you have a FB account, you can "friend" Albuquerque, as they seem to post a lot of events going on around town.
  • Thanks for the idea's ladies, its helped...

Do you guys know of any rec cetners that have volleyball? I'd love to get back on the court and play... Maybe near Rio Rancho area?

My husband plays twice a week at Manzano Mesa Multigenerational center, but that is totally not near Rio Rancho.  He says there are a few groups on meetup.com that play volleyball, but he hasn't played with any of them.  Meetup might be a good place to find other friends, but we haven't tried it despite also being new here.

  • My Rio Ranch knowledge is abysmal.  Our best Nm friends live there, and I know how to get to their house. But RR used to have apretty decent Parks & Rec department - http://www.ci.rio-rancho.nm.us/index.aspx?NID=1004 - that might know of a league...
