I'm taking nutrition online this semester since the only professor that taught an on campus version is really terrible. The bulk of the class is writing small responses to a prompt and then responding to our peers as well. The prompt this week is about truth in media advertising re: nutrition.
Four people have written responses to the prompt and honestly, I'm having trouble understanding WTH they are saying. For example:
1. Nutritious advertisements can be tricky at times, especially if their promoting new diet pills to lose weight. People tend to whether see an advertisement on screen or in person, than hearing about it on a radio. Does having a celebrity in a nutrition advertisement commercial on the television makes people believe the product really works?
2. Most of the time people can figure out if a new nutrition product is real or fake. It all depends on what consumers are being told by their doctors of which nutrition products are harmful or not. Do a nutrition product sponsored by a health organization necessarily means it?s a reliable product to use?
I feel like it's going to be a long semester.
Re: Tales of woe from nursing school, classmate edition
My translations:
1. They are eating their nutritious newspaper ads for fiber They have obviously been burned by the false hopes of a diet pill. No one listens to radio. So close to forming a coherent sentence but had to clarify that nutition advertisment meant a commerical on the picture box Ma keeps in the living room to watch her programs.
2.People know when the product is a fake. People must ask their dr if a product is fake. If the FDA says it's ok, it's ok right? It's going to work? I have no idea WTF I'm talking about but it's a good thing I didn't try to go pre-law with these fine debatin' skills.
So basically these nursing students don't even know the difference between nutrition as a category and weight loss/dietary supplements?
If I ever got to the hospital in your area, KB, I'll ask for you by name. It sounds like taking the risk of anybody else is too scary!

If it's any relief, nutrition is a pre-requisite course before you can apply to the actual nursing program and it's one of the first classes some people take. Thankfully many of these people won't make it through the anatomy & physiology weeder courses.
I'm sure there will be more examples of fine scholarship from my classmates, I'll keep you all updated.
I love you LC.
