Your Almost Name
If your parents were thinking of calling you another name, did they tell you and what was it? Do you like your 'almost name' better than the one you ended up with?
My mum was all set on calling me Sarah Lee. Then she realised it's a name of a range of desserts. So she was watching Gilligan's Island one day and saw that the actress who plays Ginger was called Tina and...waa laa, that became my name.
I wish she had stuck with Sarah, I don't like my name lol.

My mom knew my name well before she even met my dad. She said she always loved the name & would name her dolls Vanessa when she was little. She just always loved the name.
If I had had a sister, she wanted to name her Rebecca & nickname her Becca. I like that name, but it definitely doesn't suit me so I am glad Vanessa was the first choice!
My mom loved the name Erica and kept trying to name me and my sisters Erica. My dad vetoed it every time. My middle name was supposed to be Joyce which is a family name from my mom's side. Instead I was named Cristin and had a middle name passed down from a family friend who had no children. My sister ended up getting Joyce for her middle name.
I definitely prefer my name, to Erica Joyce (blah!)... especially the spelling of Cristin which is the Irish Gaelic way of spelling it. My siblings and I all have Irish Gaelic or traditional Irish Catholic names.

How fun to be named after Gilligan's Island stars... and funny that she didn't pick Ginger, but the actresses name.
I was going to be named Ann right up until the end. My mom went to the hospital in labor. A lady named Ann was there. My mom said she was a ***. haha, my mom doesn't use bad words, but she did for Ann. The woman had enough of an impact for my mom to curse and change her baby's name. They decided on Nancy. I don't love my name.

they thought i was going to be a boy (no ultrasounds back then to predict) and my name was going to be Daniel. when i was born and they saw i was a girl, they really wanted to name me Sarah (don't know why they didn't go with Danielle). but since my name would have been Sarah Le, they didn't want me to get made fun of in school so they went with Jaime instead (after the name of the bionic woman! LOL)....the spelling of my name they decided on b/c it means "I love" in French, though...to go with my Vietnamese middle name which means "beloved queen"
oh and to answer your question, i've always liked my name and couldn't imagine being a Sarah or Danielle

One more Jamie here! But spelled the other way. My name gets misspelled so often that at one point, I forgot what the correct spelling was! I still think it's funny when I see weird spelling on my Starbucks cup -- "Jaiymiee" -- it's like the couldn't decide which way to spell it, so they did all of it in one name.
I never asked why my parents named me Jamie, but I'm guessing it was after my dad, Jim. If I was a boy, my name would have been Christopher. My mom and her friend were pregnant at the same time and both liked the name. The first one to have a boy was going to name it Christopher. I turned out to be a girl, but went to school with the boy they named Chris
My mom said my dad wanted my name to be Elizabeth and she wanted Leina. My dad thought Leina sounded too Hawaiian, but I think I would have liked it. Not sure if it suits me, though. I have no idea why I ended up being named Christine.
I used to hate my name because everyone calls me Chris and it's SOOOOO common because every Christine, Christina, Christopher, Christian, Kristy, Kristen is called Chris/Kris. But, whatever. Now I don't really care. I guess I'm kinda indifferent to my name.
ETA: I LOATHE when people call me Christina. Absolutely HATE it. (Not that I hate the name, but I hate that people misread it or whatever.)
Heh, I have a cousin named Kristen who, when people ask her name, says, "Kris." Then gets really mad when they assume it's Christine/Christina.
This happens all the time to me - I feel your pain. However, I absolutely HATE being called "Crissy". Hate it. "Cris" is fine - my family calls me that - but "Crissy" is a NO. And my sister is the only person who can ever call me "Crusty" or "Crustin".
Haha. I've only had one person in my life call me Chrissy (someone I used to work with) and, umm, yeah, wasn't a fan. Sounds too prissy, huh?
hahha yes, i get this a lot too...both when i was in CA and now that i am in TX!!!

I like your name too, it always reminds me of Je t'aime when I look at it. Especially love the 'beloved queen' full meaning of your name!

Oh and I always get "Is your name short for Christina...?"
Me: "Nope."
Them: "Constantina?"
Me: 'No, just Tina."
Them: *Hopes and dreams crushed that that's all there is to my name. *
