Jen, I'm pretty sure you went somewhere in Tahiti/French Polynesia for your honeymoon and Alicia, I remember you saying something about a trip to Bora Bora after the baby is born.
So.. I'd like your advice/info/whathaveyou. I am thinking about doing a trip to Bora Bora and one other island (thinking Rangiroa) in March and just wanted to hear about your experiences with planning, did you use a travel agent, any recommendations for travel agents or good books, etc. I have done some research on the Tahiti Explorer forums and looked at a few travel sites for packages, but I always like to ask my trusted nesties.
And Jen, since you've been there I especially would love to hear any recommendations you may have and about your trip.
Re: Jen S and Alicia - Tahiti Questions
I'm in the very begginings of the planning stage. We've pretty much decided that we're going to go and that's about it, lol. DH hates to part with money and after taking 6 months to book our Europe trip, I've learned to just do basic reasearch and present him with the price, let him ponder it for a few months, then book. We also probably won't book until after Natalie is here so we can see her temperment. If she's off the hook, we'll probably just be vacationing in Hawaii. If she's calm, Bora Bora it is.
Some ladies have posted Tahiti/Bora Bora/Morea questions on the Travel board that I've found helpful and there was a post up yesterday. Pretty much all I know so far is that we plan on staying at the Hilton in Bora Bora for at least part of the trip since we can use points and they seemed child friendly. I feel like we're pretty limited since I want to go to a resort where there will be other children so we're not inconviencing any couples without children. We usually like to book trips on our own, but I'll probably use a TA just so we're picking places that are family friendly (All the things you have to think about when you have a kid. Geez, never saw myself doing that!)
OMG, where to begin? first, i'm totally jealous of you guys! it will be so amazing!
we stayed on night in papeete, 5 nights in Moorea and 5 nights in Bora Bora, then 1 night in papeete again. so awesome!!
my blog is in my siggy, we made a journal entry of every day we were there. our blog hasn't been updated too much, but read those entries for what we did.
we stayed at the intercontinental b/c when you stayed for 4 nights, you got 1 night free. everything is EXPENSIVE so we opted out of meal plans except for breakfast, which was sooo good. plus that let us explore for our dinner options. also, the first day or two when we got to a new place, we would go shopping and stock up on wine, bread and cheese and that was our snacks/occassional meals.
Bring an ipod for music! TJ actually has a great email put together about what to bring to tahiti, i'll ask him if he can find it.
MUST MUST MUST go to Villa Mahana for dinner in bora bora. your concierge can make a reservation for you. i'd go on your last night b/c its soooo goood but soooo expensive that if you go before your last night, you will go back for sure.
i became certified to dive while i was there, so the diving is amazing. I'm assuming you guys will dive too? sharks everywhere, it was so cool.
TJ did most of our research using trip advisor. we didn't use a travel agent. if you don't stay at the intercontinental on bora bora, i'd highly recommend going to the spa there for a full day. there is a lot to do there: couples massage, spa "suites" where you have a hot tub and a couple of chairs to yourself, tired leg spa where you walk through this pool and all kinds of jets massage your legs, one of those pools where it makes a current so you can "swim" in place, cold water plunge, sauna, etc. we spent 4 hours there and probably could have stayed longer.
amazing trip of a lifetime! anything else you need to know, just ask! my blog probably has much more info that i can't remember. a lot of it was written by TJ, but you'll get the drift.
Oh, i will say that don't overlook papeete. we rented a car while we were there originally to go out and watch the surf competition. it ended up being cancelled, so we explored and found some awesome waterfalls. ended up having a great day on that island.
