Gross

My doctor told me I should start having a Tbsp of flaxseed meal each day with my breakfast.  She said I could just sprinkle it on my cereal.  I just tried it for the first time on my Lucky Charms and that sh!t is gross!  I don't like the taste, I don't like the smell, and I really don't like seeing it floating in my milk.

Anyone else have to eat this stuff?  If so, what do you eat it with?  I definitely need to come up with something other than Lucky Charms.

Re: Gross

  • I've never heard of it but it doesn't sound too appetizing. Maybe you could try it in oatmeal, or granola cereal?

  • I've never had it by itself but I've had flax seed crackers before and they weren't bad. Maybe you can eat those.
  • Try Kashi or some other cereal that already has flax in it? Would be a lot better for you than lucky charms ;) haha

But they taste so good.  :-)  I'll have to try some Kashi.  It probably mixes much better with something else with flax than with lots of sugar.  But I do love my sugar.

  • I think there might be a flaxseed oil as well. Try it on some other things. I can see how the contrast in taste to lucky charms would put you off! You could even put it in something like burritos.

My friend made cookies with flaxseed in them and they were really yummy. I think you just have to find the right combo.

  • If you ever make smoothies, you could put it in that.
  • I echo the smoothie comment.  With the right fruits and juices, it will mask the flavor of the flax seed.

Does it have to be eaten with breakfast?  Or can you consume it any time of day?

She said breakfast, but I'm thinking if I can just find any way to bear the taste and smell who cares what time of day it is.  I think I might try baking it into some banana nut bread and see if it just blends in with the nut taste.

  • flax seed is so good for you because it has a lot of omega 3 and fiber of course. I need to get some of that...my mom eats it all the time. I know that total just came out with a cereal that has flax seed in it but like Hayley said, Kashi is really good too.
