Report on acupuncture..by popular demand(long)

I went to see an acupuncturist in North Haven. She was recommended to me by a friend who had used her for another issue, not fertility, but she has worked with many fertility patients.

When I arrived she brought me back to this office type room and had me sit on a stool and roll up my pants so she could get at my feet and ankles. She also had me push up my bracelets so she could get to my hands and wrists. What she did next is a little hard to explain.

She had me hold a metal probe attached to a machine, then she used a little wand and placed it at different meridian points on my hands and feet to measure the energy at those points (the points coorelate with parts of the body-- spleen, stomach, large intestine etc) based on the energy levels in those different areas she could she where I would need to have the pins, in order to "center" myself. Still with me--LOL? :-)

Then she explained the report to me and brought me to another room and showed me the needles and as she inserted each one she explained where and why she was putting it on my hands or feet. All told I have 6 pins in each foot and 6 pins in each hand. She then left I sat in a gooshy leather recliner in a dimmed room, with low classical music for about 30 minutes. She then came in and removed the pins.

I felt and still feel very very relaxed. The pins didnt hurt at all. One of them pinched a little on the side of my ankle, but it was nothing.

I will be going twice a week until my retrieval, then more frequently after that.

Pros--- it seems to be off-setting the nasty mood swings my pills have given me.

Cons- Its $75/session and not covered by insurance.

  • I'm glad that you've decided to try the homeopathic approach to help you with your struggles. I used to work for an eastern medicine doc and saw many success stories with acupuncture. I use it for everything and highly recommend it. Good luck with everything!!
  • Best of luck....acupuncture is pretty amazing!
  • thanks for sharing the details.  Hope you continue to find it relaxing.
  • I'm glad it went well.  Studies have shown that it has very positive effect on IVF treatments, and I'm sure you'll find that it's worth every penny.  I know I did.
  • Yup, thats how I look at it Kelfitz--- a small price to pay :-)

  • Thanks for sharing!  If you're still feeling relaxed then I'd say it is doing its thing already  Smile

    Good luck!! Yes

  • I also have been meaning to tell you to bring up any other illnesses/pain you have during your treatments.  The stims gave me a wicked backache, the acupuncturist focused on it, and I have not had the pain ever again.  Not once.  It was amazing.

  • Thanks Kel....good suggestion. Might as well try to have her working on anything else in the meantime, right?
  • I swear it's all related - pain/sickness in another part of the body can affect your chi life force! ;)
  • the journey continues......thanks for the update!
  • That's great, Kelly - Hey - the price will be worth it if it helps get the job done.  My friend swears by acupuncture - I want to try it myself.  I hope you have continued good experiences with it!
  • I'm so glad you liked it!  You've given me inspiration to try it again.
  • kelly, that's fantastic news!

acupuncture is an amazing thing. I've used it numerous times myself (for sinuses, back pain, etc.) and know of several people who have found it very successful in their IF treatments.

    GL!!

  • thanks for sharing KAG!  I have heard good things about accupuncture and fertility, too so I really hope that it works for you!
  • Isn't  acupuncture amazing? The more you go, you will really see increased results. I have been going for a while now for fertlity and inconjunction with IVF ( retreival will be this weekend). My dosage of meds is very low and I am responding so well. I believe the acupuncture has alot to do with it. It is keeping me calm also. My Dh knows when I go, as my mood improves.

Not IF related- I have not been sick in almost a year and my allergies are now non-existent!

Keep up with it, it will be worth it! Good luck!

  • For those who have had acupuncture- did you do it in conjunction with chiropractic services? The place i am going does both and has said that lots of people do both to align themselves from a physical and energy standpoint.

It sounds like a cross-sell to me so i opted for straight up acupuncture, but I am curious what other ladies experiences are. Thanks!

  • Thanks for sharing your experience.  I can't help on your acupuncture w/chiro question but it does sound like a cross sell to me as well.
