Birth Control Q

What happens if you wait longer than a week between packs? The last week of my pack is a placebo pill. But, I got my new pack 3-4 days after I should've started it. How does the effect the effectiveness? Should we be using condoms? How long will it take to start working again. Thanks!

NOTE: I've been married for 1 month and really really do not want to get pregnant!

Re: Birth Control Q

  • Yeah, I'd say use a condom!

  • definately use condoms for at least 7 days after restarting.

  • I'm a paranoid person so I would use backup for the whole pack but you do need to use something. I used to work for an OB/GYN office so I know if you start a pack late you risk ovulating.

GL and I hope you don't get pregnant!

  • 7 days after restarting is correct. Check your pamphlet that comes with the BC. It will likely have your answer.

  • Use a condom.  The follicle can have a rebound effect- which greatly increases your chance of becoming preg.  The first few pills in any bc pack are the most critical ones to take on time.
