toy box recs?

I am looking for a sturdy, but not too expensive toy box for DS's room. His room is pretty small, so I don't need anything huge. He is just getting so many toys that I am running out of places to store them! Does anyone suggest a certain brand?

Re: toy box recs?

  • I don't have a brand suggestion (I'll be using the toy box that my dad made for me when I was little). But make sure you get one with a large overhang or that the front panel is cut out so they don't slam their fingers in the lid.
  • Step 2 makes a toy box with two bookshelfs.  It looks small but the amount of stuff you can fit in there is AMAZING!  I think you can get it at TRU also.
  • I recommend not getting one. It's where toys go to die. Small things sink to the bottom. Searching through it means emptying it. No positives.

I have some cube shelves (cubbies) that have bins in them to store toys with lots of parts and some cubbies are empty to put larger toys in. They sell cube shelves at Target. I have some from IKEA which I think look a little nicer (Expedit shelves)... actually we have 3 sets of these which are 2 cubes x 4cubes. One in DD's room and 2 in our den. The have a smaller 2x2cube too.

this is totally what I plan on doing when we have kids someday!!  I currently use that bookcase in our family room.

I agree with this. Using different shelves and "fabric drawers" helps keep things more organized.

  • I plan on getting 1+ of THESE and THESE when we're able to get rid of the jumperoo/exersaucer for the toys downstairs.  We have a playroom upstairs that has a walk in closet that DH filled with shelves, but there's always a ton of toys that make their way downstairs and are played with enough that I don't want to carry up/down daily.
