Brazilian Blowout or other Relaxer/Straightener?
Has anyone in the Twin Cities or Rochester area gotten a Brazilian Blowout, or had another type of relaxer or chemical straightening done to their hair at a salon? I have naturally curly hair and am considering trying one of these processes at a salon.
If you have gotten one of these done (or know of someone who has)... Where did you (or they go)? Which type of treatment was done? And what did you think of the results? Thanks!
Re: Brazilian Blowout or other Relaxer/Straightener?
I had a Brazilian Blowout when I was up there last November and I wasn't overly impressed. Only because I still had to use the blow dryer and straightener to get really straight hair. It relaxed the curl a lot, but not in a good way. I do prefer either really straight hair, or curly though, so maybe that is why I didn't like it. I thought it would save me time every day but it didn't save me any time at all and cost a lot of money, and I only paid half price. If you are looking for something that will just relax your curl, but that you will still need to maintain, it is a good option. The stylist that did mine teaches it to others and was really good, so it wasn't that she didn't do a good job. I know others that have had it done and loved it though, so don't go off just my opinion of it! I went to my mom's salon in Plymouth (I forget the name, but it's by the Old Chicago on 55 and Vicksburg).
My two big worries are: curly roots look bizarre. And what if I don't like it? It's fairly permanent, like 3 months, right? That would be horrible to spend all that money and have 3 months of awful hair days (as if naturally curly hair isn't a crap shoot on ever having a GOOD hair day, but still...)
I saw a commercial for a new Garnier product that makes it super simple to blow dry hair straight.... def. not the same as the semi-permanent options you're talking about, but another idea.
That was the one thing about the Brazilian Blowout that I liked over the other staightening options.. It gradually fades out of your hair, so you aren't stuck with curly roots! Your whole head gets curly again all at once. I hear you on bad hair days....try living down here in the most humid place on earth! lol
If you search Brazilian Blowout, there are actually a lot of posts on the Nest regarding it, and there a quite a few blogs out there about it.
Of course there are good and bad about just about anything you do. My sister tried a chemical relaxer once and she is still trying to get back all the hair she lost and that was almost a year ago.
I have also heard that there are different brazilian blowouts, some that use Formaldehyde in them.
I have also seen this one at Sephora and have thought about using it. http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P6119&categoryId=B70
I am still hesitant about spending so much money on something and wrecking my hair for life. It would be nice to know how all the versions would work for each person before actually doing them.
