Food Help! (Hawki or otherwise...)
Hey ladies,
So, DH and I have been a part of a CSA for one month now. It's been amazing, but I'm currently swimming in peaches and apples (mostly gala apples).
I was thinking about baking these into some type of muffin, bread, cobbler, pie...something. Any ideas? Please help!
Thanks!
Re: Food Help! (Hawki or otherwise...)
I just made a peach cobbler last week that was fantastic and I also used peaches to make peach scones recently (basically using the recipe for my oatmeal strawberry scones and subbing peaches and I changed the spices around a little).
As for apples - there is an apple tag in my blog that has a bunch of recipes for both desserts and savory dinner ideas. Most of them are from last fall since I bought about 50 pounds of apples from the orchard last fall and was swimming in apples for a while as well. If you can't use them fast enough, make applesauce or apple butter and freeze it or can it. For breads, I recommend the pumpkin apple bread if you are in a fall mood or you can modify a zucchini bread recipe and use apples instead.

Peach ice cream is fantastic, if you have an ice cream maker. I also find peach crumbles a little easier than cobblers--you basically just sugar sliced peaches then top with the crumble topping (flour and butter, maybe a little sugar too, might have to google that), then bake. You can also grill peach halves on the BBQ and top with vanilla ice cream.
As for the apples, I think apple breads are a great idea. You can bake up a bunch and then freeze them. Applesauce in the crockpot is the easiest way to make it, in my opinion, and a good additional use of the apples.
I wish we had a farm share!
