Sigh

I do not belong in the kitchen. In the middle of preparing dinner I break the stupid cheap faucet attachment (for the third fuuking time) when I tried to pull out the snake hose, causing water to spray across the kitchen. Since D is in the shower, I clean up the mess without him noticing. Then I manage to break the garbage disposal. Now, dinner was actually awesome. And afterwards I quickly offer to clean up, because I know he'll stress out over having to get stuff fixed and I'm not in the mood to hear it. I figure I'll bring it up tomorrow when we're both at work. Sure enough, he comes up behind me while I'm rinsing the dishes all "you are so awesome blah blah..."). And then I accidentally sprayed us both with water. No hiding the broken faucet now. So I went ahead and explained the disposal problem. Now, after an hour of failing to fix anything, D is ruining my perfect Sunday by being all tense and pouty. So. That was a long whiny story. The end.

Re: Sigh

  • Oh, and the best part, is he's all, "well, just make sure not to use the garbage disposal.". And I said something about until it's fixed. D then responds that a disposal is just a "luxury item". Huge Lanie face. Of course this comes from the cheapass who doesn't use the kitchen. But seriously! Who suggests we just leave the damn thing broken!? And seriously, we pretty much put my entire income into savings. We can afford a few "luxury items.". Ugh. I love that he's responsible about money, but seriously?!

  • I'm sorry.

I am being all weepy because I miss my husband. He is gone for a week. I usually love my alone time and have always enjoyed when he goes on trips and I get some me time, but I am really affected this time around.

    Two things-

one, can you not use a disposal and still keep it in there? I think it can cause problems.

two, check and see if it is something minor. i broke ours once but really all it needed was the reset button hit.

  • Well, being all on your own with the baby is a whole different thing. Changes the equation substantially. I'm sorry you're feeling down Winger. Maybe you and Dagger should go get some ice cream.

I completely agree about the disposal. It's there. We need to fix that shiit. His cheapness sometimes defines reason. I'll just get it fixed on my own. Re: #2, we tried all the simple fixes like resetting, feeling around for something broken, etc. No go.

  • Awwwww Christin. I'm sorry that D stands for Dink tonight. How is a garbage disposal a luxury item?

So what specifically has you so down about it Winged? Or is it one of those hard to explain sads?

  • When I first started dating F he told me he didn't use the garbage disposal, and I should only use it in "emergencies."  That rule went out the door pretty quickly.

I'm sorry about your situation, Winged.  I was alone this week and it was pretty rough.  It's more than just being alone with all the responsibilities that come with a baby, I think.  It's about having someone else there to share the cool things that come with a baby.

  • You would get such a punishment if you practiced domestic discipline.

The house we rented at the lake this week had a broken faucet. Only the sprayer worked, so we kept spraying ourselves in the face when we turned on the water. I kept looking for a hidden camera, I thought we were being set up for America's Funniest Home Videos. And there was no disposal. It made me realize I don't think I could go without one now.

I think it's just that it is so nice to have someone to share the responsibilities with me. i know I can do it, but this is the first time doing it alone. it is much easier as he gets older, he is much more self suffiecient and has such a great personality. but it is still nice to have a partner in it.

Also, there have been a lot of breakins in my neighborhood lately. it has me paranoid about night time. And I will be getting up at around 3 or 4 am tonight and it is just kind of a creepy time of night.

  • Here, Bugle. Does this video help?

  • kay, yeah. he rolled over today. I was so glad he did that while Mr. Winged was still here because it was fun to share it with him.

    Kristen love the new pics!!

iPad does not seem to want to let me play that video Moo.

  • Boooooo! Can you watch videos on Facebook? I posted it there, too.

It's not all that exciting. I found a Chicken Dance Elmo I had gotten as a gag gift in college one year and I made a video of his antics. The end.

  • That sucks winged. I hope it goes fast.

Lately I've been wondering how I am going to handle Bob working the night shift when we have kids. I better not get too paranoid though or he might take away my tv privileges so I can't watch crime dramas anymore.

my MIL had some movie preview thing on last weekend and there was some kid with a plastic bag on it's face that was evil. I am embarrassed to say it freaked me out a bunch.

  • I've had a similar disposal experience to Winged.  In fact, I think all I had to do was let it sit there for a while and then it turned on when Brett came home and I was telling him I broke it.  If it's really broken, though, you can't just leave it in there unless you like the idea of a reeeeeal smelly sink and sticking your hand in there all the time to fish stuff out.  Yark.

Also, sprayers are easy to fix so D can take his attitude and shove it.  But I know exactly how you feel with the "luxury item" thing.  Um yeah, 90 of the things we own are luxury items, dude.

I'm sorry you're having a sad, Winged.  I can understand being skeered about the break-ins.  Any time I am up in the early AM alone, I am always creeped out.  And also Friday night I kept seeing murglars out of the corner of my eye, so you're not as crazy as I am.

  • a murglers a real something or is that a typo? Is that a sniglet?
  • murglars = murdering burglars

I think my brother may have coined it while I was in college but it caught on in our social circle and I forget that it's not a real word sometimes.  I consider it a sniglet.

Maybe it's because I teach, but I can't handle evil or creepy little kids. I probably would've been freaked out too.

  • I just wrote a whole reply and lost it.

Winged, I'm sorry you're sad and freaked out.  I bawled the night before my husband returned to work.  Then M and I found a groove.  Now that he's in recovery, my husband will start by working from home tomorrow and then at the office on Tuesday, and I'm right back where I started.  Since he can't do all the things we were doing before, I have no idea how I will entertain him without sitting him in front of the TV or the Wii for hours.  So many normal activities, like games, are a challenge because of the language difference (so I can't explain how to play), and we can't do the things he loves like ride his bike or go to the pool.

Also, we live in a pretty safe neighborhood, although there were a string of break-ins, mostly about a year ago, always when the homeowners were out.  I feel complete at ease here.  The other day when M ran away, I told him it was dangerous to leave alone, because there might be bad people out.  So last night, when we were eating dinner outside at dusk, he told me that he doesn't like it dark, because there could be bad people on either side.  So now, I have to figure out how to make him feel safe in our own back yard while at the same time making him realize that there could be bad people out and about.  All with out good communication.  Yeah.

  • Oh, CS, that has to be hard to explain. Sorry.

    How is he recovering?

  • He's doing amazing!  Yesterday, he was so happy to be out, you'd never know he'd had heart surgery just a few days before.  He hung out with us, played Mario Cart on the Wii (for the first time, it was our way of getting him to use his left arm (the cut is across his left side)), and even went to the movies with me!

Today, he was sore from all the activity, and more tired.  It was also a rainy day, so we stuck close to home.  He still played the Wii, but was more guarded.

Now, if only I could get him to eat without fear again, and his stomach would return to normal, we'd be all set!

But seriously, I'm astonished at the way he's moving around and improving.  It truly is a miracle of nature.

  • That's so great to hear! Kids really are resilient!
  • Glad to hear more good news, CS!

Winged-You'll appreciate this. I was warm so I got up and turned the fan on and decided to go to the bathroom. I hear a noise and stop-why are the wind chimes that are inside making so much noise? They only make that much noise when someone walks by.

The fan is probably lucky I didn't have a blunt object handy. I am so SMRT.

  • I'm glad to hear you're just going to call and get it fixed.  That's what I do 'round these parts.  99.9% of the time, he'll get on the train and go with it once the solution is happening.  Just take care of business and tell him "you're welcome."

  • I have to agree, if I waited on my husband to make repair appointments, nothing around the house would be fixed.  Not because he's cheap or doesn't want it fixed, just because he hates talking on the phone so he wouldn't take the initiative.  Although he would research whom I should call, he'd never make the call himself.

Which reminds me, we need a plumber and a furniture repair guy in pretty soon.  Only a few more weeks before I start back at work part time and won't be home to let them in!
