I'm usually not a liar...

but, I lied. =(

Only because DH told me to!

ok, so here is the story. Some of you know we recently sold our house and stayed with my 'rents for about a month. Well, as we started looking for apartments, we noticed it was quite difficult to find anyone that would take our little zoo (my 4 precious kitties hehe). So, DH thought it was a good idea to tell potential landlords that we only had 2. As I was getting frustrated throughout the apartment search, I started to agree. Fast forward...we found an apartment that we love (and pay a decent amount for). They asked how many kitties and of course we told them 2. =/ I really love the apartment and didn't want to jeopardize losing it, so I went along with DH's plan. Well, this plan came back to bite me in the a$$ yesterday, 'cause the cable guy came to the house and the landlord was following him around like a halk. I had the other 2 kitties locked away in my room and it was working until they had to go in there to look at the cable line...CRAP! So, of course I had to tell the LL something...so I told him we were watching my sis's 2 kitties while she was in the process of moving. He said no problem and then followed up with "How long will the be staying?"...Another lie came flying out of my mouth...my response was "ooh, about a week or so." FREAK'N great! Now what? The non-liar in me wanted to just go over to him and say listen, the reason we didn't tell you we had 4 was because. ok...what would you do? DH says to just let it go and if he brings it up again in the future, tell him my sis can't take them afterall and we need to keep them...how freak'n obvious! =/

  • Oh Bonnie!  Look what you've gotten into now.  Hopefully, you will be such wonderful tenants, he will overlook your little lies.
  • I hope so! =)

ummm...I don't think he can complain about my non-noisy cats when he has 2 annoying birds yelling all day long. =/ I can live with the birds if he can live with my kitties. hehe

  • HAHAHAHHAA What a story!  I am sure it will all be fine.  Even if he finds out they are going to stay permanently I am sure he won't make a fuss since you are already living there and paying rent on time :)
  • We're not really supposed to have a cat in our coop. When we interviewed with the board, we didn't tell them. They basically said the no-pet policy was mostly for dogs and they don't mind cats so much. Supposedly their are other cats through out the coop, but neighbors that walk by sometimes point at him in the window. I hope because he's so cute. Maintenance is coming to do our bathroom and I was going to keep him in a bedroom too.

Maybe, you could teach them to hide better?

  • Our old apartment initially didn't want us to have any cats.  We managed to convince them that one kitty wasn't a big deal, and they were fine with it....and then we got another. :-)  By the time the realized anything, they knew we were good tenants and were totally cool with it.

It's not like you have to walk them or anything - you should be able to get away with having them there without anyone noticing for a while.  And by the time they notice, they won't care.

  • I think as long as you keep your apartment immaculate and pay your rent on time, there won't be any issues.  I think most landlords are afraid of animals ruining their carpeting or floors.  If you don't allow that to happen, all should be fine.

  • I would have just told him, I think. But I think everything is gonna be ok with you and the lil zoo. Yes
