Emergency Room Visit.....

So I've told yall that Adam and I are pretty much regulars at the ER.  Well, we almost had to make another appearance Friday night.  Adam picks me up from work early and we go home.  We open the door and the entire house smells like gasoline.  Apparently, in his hurry to get out the door that morning, he put a can of weedeater gas in the garage... dummy.... and then apparently knocked it over.  So the house is full of gas fumes.  I open up the garage and all the windows and turn fans on to try to air out the house.  We're sitting there and had just put a movie in when Adam starts complaining that his tongue was itching.  I thought he was just being dumb so I didn't pay too much attention to it.  He then says he's starting to have breathing problems, so assuming that it was the gas fumes, I told him to go outside and get some fresh air.

We go out in the backyard and he starts itching all over like crazy complaining that his skin was burning.  I pull up his shirt and his back is bright red and covered in goose bumps even though it's 90 something degrees outside.  I told him to go take a cold shower.  I looked at him before he went inside and I said "babe, your face looks WEIRD".  He goes inside and his face is all swollen and he's breaking out in hives.  With the way his face was swollen, it made him look like an 80 year old man.  I give him a couple tablets of benadryl and make him jump in the shower.  I called my mom (who has severe peanut allergies) and told her that I thought Adam was having an allergic reaction.  She said to give him 2 more benadryl, wait about 20 minutes and if he doesn't get any better, to go to the hospital

Adam can't wait that long.  He kept saying that his throat was closing up so we get in my car and I haul ass to the hospital.  Well, by the time we get there, the benadryl had kicked in and the swelling was starting to go down and he wasn't having any more breathing issues, so we sit in the car for a while just in case he still needed to go inside.  He didn't, so we went home.

Man, that scared the crap out of me!!!  All I kept thinking about was Will Smith in that movie, Hitch, which of course sent me into hysterical giggles.

  • OMG!  You two are at the ER more than anyone I know! I'm really glad he's ok though, I would have freaked! I guess it was the fumes that made him react that way?

We still don't know... It looked to me like he was having an allergic reaction to something he ate, but he ate lunch like 3 hours before we got home, so I would assume that a food allergy would show up quicker than that.  The only thing we can think of is that the gas fumes somehow triggered something.  He tried to tell me that he can't weedeat anymore because he's allergic to it.  I laughed at him.

  • Man, after we got back from the ER parking lot, we were both so disappointed that we didn't think to take a picture of his face.  He claims that he looked like a caveman... I thought he looked like a very elderly gentleman.  You guys SOOOO would've gotten a kick out of what his face looked like!!!

We have no idea.  I tried to do some research online to see if gas fumes would cause an allergic reaction like that, but didn't find much on it.  He had lunch like three hours before all this happened and didn't eat anything unusual... just had a salad at Subway.

  • I saw the title of this one and my first thought was "Of course it's stu." You guys! Glad he's better.
  • That's scary! I'm glad he is ok, and you didn't have to end up going "into" the hospital. Does he have any idea what could have caused it?

  • That's so scary.  I would have been in a panic if I were him (or you).  Sounds like you got a preview of what Adam might look like in 50 years.  LOL.

  • I suggest you two have a giant custom clear vinyl bubble made big enough for both of you to fit in.  And consider living in it.  I would also line the walls of it with the giant bubble wrap just for extra security.
