I hope DH takes care of himself

DH got a certified letter today from our general doc saying his sugar levels are way too high, guessing that he's diabetic. He had an appt. for his high cholesterol about 2 months ago with a cardiologist, which he forgot about. So I remade both appts for him this week. He didn't get to making the appts himself for the last 2 months.

I hope this is a wake-up call for him.

Re: I hope DH takes care of himself

  • Oh no! Do they think he's actually diabetic, or just borderline diabetic?

Guys can be such a pain in the @ss when it comes to taking care of themselves, DH has been diabetic since he was 8 and he refuses to check his blood levels.

    GL with everything.

  • ooh man...I'm sorry to hear your hubby is having some health issues. Yea, most men are just very la-di-da about taking care of themselves...except my husband. He's much more into his health than I am. He exercises 4 times a week, eats right (for the most part), goes for yearly check-ups with his PCP etc. Yea...nothing like me. =/

Good luck with everything...I hope he takes care of himself.

  • Sounds excactly like my DH!  He is so bad.  His sugar levels have been high for years and he continues to eat crap all the time.  He doesn't listen to me, so I've stopped nagging him.  Boys...
  • To be honest, I don't even take of that stuff myself. I get an annual GYN exam and that's about it. I wouldn't know what my sugar or cholesterol levels.  H is more on top of that and gets bloodwork done regularly.
  • Thanks ladies,

We went to the doctor and he is diabetic. His sugar levels are low enough that it could be managed by diet. He also started taking his cholestorol med. His cholestorol is about 3x too high!

I almost thinks DH likes getting nagged though, because he gave the doctor my phone number so I can keep track of everything and remind him. When the doctor calls him, he keeps forgetting to call back.

OK this might be a post for Friday's theme. lol.

  • why are men so bad at taking care of themselves?  My DH had never once had his cholesterol checked until we started going to the same doctor, and he gets these crippling pains in his hips and his knees that he refuses to see anyone about.  So annoying!
