What would you do?

Our wedding date was set for April 23rd.  We set it before we realized that it was Easter weekend (I was surprised to find out that Easter is coming so late this year).  Anyway, I got a call from our church today and they asked us to move the date due to all the events that will take place in the church that weekend.  We are having a very hard time agreeing on another date.  My fiance owns a small business and the busy season can go into April, so we can't get married any earlier than the 23rd.  We also already booked our honeymoon (cruise) for May 8 and really don't want to move the date because it will cost an extra $420.  We are paying for the entire wedding and honeymoon ourselves, so we are trying to watch our money.  The next weekend, April 30, is out because I'll be on my period at that time.  I'm on blood thinners and because of that, my periods are VERY heavy and I really don't want to have to deal with that on my wedding day.  Having said that, it's possible that I may not start until Sunday.  I usually start on Sunday, but I'm worried it may be earlier because of all the stress.  Plus, the day can vary sometimes.  May 7 is our only other option but I'm worried about driving the 10+ hours to make it to our cruise on Sunday.  We'd have to leave right after our dance and drive all that way with no sleep. Plus, I'm worried about possible car issues, etc... and would want to leave early to have extra time just in case something went wrong.  So, I'm debating between April 30 and keeping my fingers crossed that my monthly visitor will wait until Sunday, or May 7 when we'll have to drive all that way with no sleep.  What would you do in this situation?

Re: What would you do?

  • Can you really predict AF that far out?? I'm pretty regular and couldn't predict it to the day 9 months from now. Is there anyway you can skip the placebos. I was on my period starting Monday of our honeymoon and it wasn't that bad, although your situation is different than mine.  I would check with your doc to see if you can "adjust" your cycle before then and get married on the 30th.
  • I'm on NuvaRing and it's 3 weeks in, 1 week out.  I always remove it on a Thursday and typically start on Sunday.  I used the 3 week/1 week and just counted out when I thought I'd remove it that month.
  • Me too! Talk to your doctor and see if you can skip taking your ring out and just put a new one in. I messed mine up and just stuck a new one in and skipped my period and didnt have a problem. That is what I would do in this situation.

ditto this, except do this a month or two before to change the pattern. Don't try it for the first time on your wedding weekend- it doesn't always work for everyone.

Either skip the non-ring week for two or three months leading up to the wedding (in other words, keep a ring in constantly, which will keep you from getting your period), or have your wedding on a different weekend and honeymoon as planned.  You don't have to go on your honeymoon immediately after the ceremony.

  • It's very easy to manipulate AF on NuvaRing. Obviously, talk to your doctor, but you shouldn't have a problem. My doc says I can keep mine in for 4 weeks and just change it without leaving it out for a week.

  • Thanks everyone.  I have my annual in Sept. so I'll just talk to my dr. then.
  • My question is -- if the church "asked" you to move, couldn't you have said no? I'm not trying to put down the circumstance you're in, because I do feel terribly bad for you. :( But I am just wondering, if you have reserved the church and paid for it, how can they make you move?
  • can't you get married the weekend before the 23rd?
  • I would ask the church for the deposit back, since they'd originally said you could have the wedding on that day. Then I'd find another place.

  • What about Friday? I know it's kind of an "off" day, but a friday evening wedding would be gorgeous! Especially in April:-)
