reinstate Monday GTGs?

Hey girls!

Since the fall months will be coming soon, I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in the Monday night GTGs again? I figure I'll be home a lot more often during the week, and it will help liven up the board.

are mondays still good?

is 8pm Eastern time still good?

what about recipe sundays?

  • All of the above sounds good to me.  I'll try to post recipes when I can, I haven't tried anything new in awhile.  But now I have a Paula Deen cookbook from out trip, so I want to try some things from there.

um, I love Paula Deen! "Southern cookin makes ya good lookin!"

Anyway, now that I'm back in school I'm far busier, but can try to make an appearance Mondays at 8 :)

  • I'll do my best!  I've tried a few new recipes, so I might actually be able to participate for recipe Sunday.

And Sandra, did you go to Paula Deen's restaurant in Savannah?  I went to SCAD for a quarter (right out of high school) and I still DREAM about those cheese biscuits, all these years later!  In fact, if I stayed in Savannah longer than a quarter, my plan was to work there!  Do the servers still sing?

small world - my sis is moving to savannah to go to SCAD for the next 2 years. Can I ask why you left? I toured it with her and it seems like a great school, but I've heard some negative things (along the lines of, they care more about if you have money than if you have talent, etc.)

Yes we sure did!  It was amazing.  We weren't there to get reservations at 9am, but we waited in the line to sit at the bar, which in my opinion was much more fun than sitting at one of those boring plain tables.  They offered us refills on our drinks in to go cups when we were leaving!  How about that for southern hospitality.   Those biscuits were good.  No servers were singing though... did they used?  What did they sing?

Yes!  They would sing different songs, most of which I'd never heard before.  You'd be eating, then all of a sudden one waiter would be singing!  Later, the girl putting biscuits on the table would sing!  It was a cute touch.  That was quite a while ago, though.

That IS crazy!  Savannah is a really beautiful city.

I left for several reasons, really.  Instead of having English, math, science, etc. as prerequisites, we had to take 2-D design, drawing and other artsy classes.  No big deal if you want to be a painting or sculpture major, but I wanted to do film and was hardly good at crafting "handmade" art.  Also, the students were...well, total hippies...and spent much of their time smoking opium; not really my scene, since I was more into torn fishnets and lip piercings at the time. I also wasn't used to perfect strangers being nice to me on the street, and I couldn't get used to that.  To top it all off, I hated dorm life! Stick out tongue In short, it just wasn't a good fit for me.  A lot of people love it, though!  My roommate was one of them, and graduated with a degree in fashion design...I think?  Let me know if you have more questions!

  • People still do opium?  Didn't that die out in, like, the 1800s?

I'm a history major but I never took a class about drug history, lol.

I told you it had been a while since I'd been there!

But yes, I guess they do - especially "artists".  I had known people in high school that smoked pot laced with opium, but never pure opium...until SCAD.  Again, this was just my experience - I'm sure all the people that were there the brief period I attended either graduated, dropped out, or flunked out by now, so it may be completely different!

  • LOL'ing at all of this! My sis is living on her own in a studio apartment and getting her masters, so hopefully she's out of the opium scene. I definitely got the feeling that it was a hippie town though. I mean, I live in a college town (albeit Athens, GA is more frat/sorority driving around in benz's), but we went to 'the sentient bean' for breakfast while we were there and it was all vegan...definitely not my cup of tea lol.
  • I would imagine it'd be a lot different for a masters, actually - the opium lovers probably don't progress that far!

You'll have to let me know what she thinks!

And I just remembered that the food in my dorm cafeteria was really good, so that was a perk!  And sweet tea - oh my god, I almost considered staying just for sweet tea.  We just don't have that in the Midwest.

  • I laughed so hard at the conversations!  I'm sad I missed out on them!  An old co-worker went to SCAD and man I could tell you some things about her!  She fits your 'opium smoking, hippie' description so well...and I mean that literally.

I could try and come on Mondays now.  I work til 8:30 but I could try and pop in around 9ish when I get home :)
