VENT: Grr... I hate my renters
Okay so I have this couple that are renting out the basement of my rent house (H and I moved to an apt and are renting out the house). Well, we have had MAJOR storms and rain here. So a few weeks ago, they had water that came into the basement from an outside starewell, which drain had clogged.
I had explained to them, in writing, prior to this that they had to keep the drain clear, and if it clogged, I have this special plunger to unclog it.
Well they call me that morning saying that hte basement flooded... I let hubby deal with it, cuz he was off work that day. Well they played dumb and said they had no idea about having to keep the drain clean. So I forwarded the document that they had been provided upon move-in, and suddenly it clicked. They are all like "oh yeah i remember now"... Okay so move forward another week... well we had another really bad rainfall/storm and water came in from the front of the house... not sure where, because they are NOT communicating to me properly.
So I tell them that I will get a waterproofer out, which I had already done 2 years ago, but my warranty was up on the work i had previously had done. We talk to the neighbors who said they are having same problem, and that this is the first time it happened. So my guess is that because of all the rain, there really isn't anything we can do about it, and its not an ongoing problem. Well I explain that to them, and that we need to schedule a time to get the waterproofer out there anyways.
So H calls them 3-4 times last week, trying to get the waterproofer out to the house. The renters NEVER answer (mind you they are currently not working full time, so its not like they are busy). So were like WTF? You are bothering ME, but you wont answer for H.
So H gets a text today from the guy... guess why? Its supposed to rain tomorrow... so H calls them... and they STILL dont pick up (mind you he is calling both the chick AND the guy).
Honestly??? Guess what if water comes into the basement, its there friggin fault. I dont get it. Finally I told H that as soon as the waterproofer can get out there, we are going to meet him at the house, whether or not hte renters are there, and move whatever we have to out of the way. I own the house, and i dont need any more friggin water in the basement.
I just dont get why they are being so friggin stupid. Then they call me all like, this is unacceptable. Well guess what im not a magic maker. Ugh, I hate this crap, I have enough to deal with.

I don't think I have anywhere near the amount of patience it would take to be a landlord.
Gah I hate some renters too (although I am one.) H and I spent all day yesterday cleaning an apartment (which required using my horse's pooper scooper to get things off the floors and scrubbed walls and painted.
Sorry you're going through this. Not only are you trying to help them out but also keep your house in good shape and they suck.

So H finally talks to them yesterday, and they say that they never got the calls, and that they would rather work through email??? Really who does that? I mean H does not have a BB or anything, so its not like he has time to email. Plus, that is what a fuucking phone is for.
Then they are all like well i thought the waterproofer was already here... WTF? Then they say they have the water on videotape... so we can use that to tell the waterproofer where hte water is coming from. Okay dumbasses... you didn't even tape the ORIGIN of hte water... how is a videotape of a stream of water supposed to tell us where the water is coming from. They didn't even move the furniture from where hte water was coming from. REALLY??? I think these ppl are just idiots... like dumb as shiit. I really think i will not be renewing their lease in 4 months. Fuuck that.
