Both DH and I have the original Verizon Droid. We got it back in March when they were running the BOGO special. I actually really wanted a Blackberry of some kind, but DH really really really wanted the Droid. He did a lot of research on it and apparently it was second only to the iPhone in Consumer Reports (at that time). We would have loved to have gotten iPhones but didn't want to switch from Verizon, because it's the carrier we've both had ever since we got our cell phones. So anyways, I took one for the team and got a Droid.
Most days I really like it. I actually love the touch-screen for texting and internet browsing, which really surprised me! I was very afraid of the touch screen at first. DH uses the qwerty slide-out keyboard to type a lot, because he says his hands are too big for the tough screen keys. I am a girl so I clearly don't have that problem, and I actually barely use the slide-out qwerty. What I don't like about the Droid is that in my experience, I am constantly hanging up on people because my phone either locks out or does something weird... people are so used to it now and they know just to call be back but it's annoying. DH's doesn't do it, only mine does. It's a great phone for texting and e-mail and apps (which are all very similar to the iPhone) and browsing the internet... but I personally don't think it's the best phone for a phone-talker, which I definitely am.
Some people complain that the original Droid is "too thick" and they prefer the Eris, which doesn't have the slide-out qwerty. I'm indifferent to it though. Does the Incredible have a slide-out? I'm not familiar with the Incredible because it came out a while after ours... is it through Verizon or that the one through Sprint?

I have a Droid also, and although I think it's a nice phone, I did like my Blackberry better. I suppose it really depends on what you most want the phone for. DH loves his because he uses the internet all the time (faster than the Blackberry's internet) and he likes all of the apps. I use my phone primarily just for calls, texting, and e-mail. E-mail is much, much better on the Blackberry in my opinion. E-mails came directly to my Blackberry, whereas with my Droid, it seems to be delayed. You can go into settings and change how often it checks for e-mail, but even when I have it set to constant, I don't always get my e-mails. Also, with the Blackberry, when you got e-mail, it would just beep at you once. With the Droid, it beeps at me over and over until I actually check the email. That annoys me because with junk mail, it's easier for me to wait until I can get to the computer and just delete it all at once.
Bottom line, I do enjoy my Droid, but I'd switch back to the Blackberry if I could based on what I rely on my phone for.
DH and I both have Verizon and don't want to change - otherwise we would have probably gotten the iPhone too. But, from what I've heard and read the Droids are just as good.
DH has always just had a regular flip phone - nothing more than calls and texting. His phone is just crapping out on him now and since he's due for his upgrade he wanted to get something new. He probably would just get a normal phone again, except for the fact that hardly make them anymore - at least nothing that doesn't require a data plan. So we figured that if he's going to have to get a data plan anyway, he might as well get a good phone.
I on the other hand, don't really NEED a new phone (I have the LG Touch right now) but I'm a tech geek and have always wanted the newest stuff. So I'm going to transfer MIL's upgrade (she's on our plan too) so I can get the Droid next month. I used to have a blackberry a few years ago - which I really enjoyed. But I think I'll probably enjoy the droid better - especially with all the apps and stuff.
The Incredible does not have a QWERTY slide out keyboard - it's all touchscreen like the iPhone. We were actually just in the Verizon store this weekend deciding which ones we wanted to get. The newest one, the Droid 2, is basically and updated version of what you have and is super nice. It's either between the 2 or the Incredible for us - we'll have to see!
