Moving to Pennsylvania...advice?
My fiance and I live in Georgia (and have our whole lives), but we are eager to explore a new area after our June wedding. We have recently decided that we are interested in moving to Pennsylvania-particularly the Dauphin County area. We are both music teachers, and we are looking for advice on where specifically we should go, which apartments to live in, or any advice in general from someone who's lived in Pennsylvania. We don't think we want to live in a really big city, but we would like to move somewhere that has some life to it. Thanks!
Re: Moving to Pennsylvania...advice?
I also know some teachers that were looking for awhile in the music teaching field. They finally both have jobs but it did take them awhile.
Dauphin county has some nice schools though so it is definitely worth your time in looking.
Once you have a job in the area we could give you specifics on apartments, but without having a definite area it is hard to help you with that.
agree with pp, jobs first is probably the best way for you to make the move and be able to enjoy your new experience without the stress of being unemployed. Try these websites for pa teaching jobs: www.pareap.net and www.pa-educator.com (i think i got those right, but google them if i didnt). also, look on each school districts webpage (find the districts on the PA Dept of Ed website) and consider local colleges too.
Harrisburg is really the only city in the area, but its pretty small so it might fit your needs. Otherwise there are a couple local downtowns (Carlisle and Hershey are probably the most popular) but the vast majority of central pa is typical suburbs and/or fairly rural.
My husband & I relocated to Harrisburg in June, so I would be happy to answer any specific questions, tell you how we went about looking for an apt, etc.
Feel free to PM me if you want! I know it's overwhelming!
