Vacation/kid question

We are getting ready for our trip to Aruba - we leave on Saturday(!) Anyway, anyone have an idea of what to do re. a carseat?  Miles is in the big Britax now and we are debating whether or not we need to schlep it on the plane so that we'll have it for the 15-20 min drive to the hotel from the airport.

Re: Vacation/kid question

  • We didn't use one in Mexico.  We were ona but and in a cab.   i was very nervous, but once we were there I relaxed about it.

  • My BIL/SIL brought it with them to Cabo and realized they should have just left it at home.

  • I know there are services that you can rent car seats and other baby gear from, but I don't know about the international options.

  • Not being a mother, I'd totally chance a 20 minute drive.  Then again, my mom let me stand up in the front seat as a kid soooo....

  • Would you be taking a cab or a shuttle or bus?  I'd totally chance it in a shuttle/bus, but a cab ride might make me more nervous.  Especially if you go through a city with traffic?

Exciting!! I want to go to Aruba....

  • Even in the US, many states have laws exempting people from car seat laws when riding in cabs or using car services.  I think car seats are great, but like Fallin, I remember riding in all sorts of unsafe situations.

I always make sure M's buckled into his booster seat, but it seems kind of ridiculous, given that in Peru we were riding around with 6 people  to a tiny compact cab.  There were no seatbelts, yet alone car seats, and often, M was on my lap.  It was like our very own clown car.  Luckily, M likes the booster, because he can see out better.

  • We didn't take one to London because we were taking buses/shuttles and the tube everywhere. I don't even think there would have been a way to attach a car seat to a bus/shuttle seat. I might take one if you're going to be in taxis fairly often, but if it's just for one or two rides I think I'd just take him on my lap.
