As I do every year...(husband birthday drama post)

I wait until the last minute to figure out what to do for DH's birthday.

Shopping for my birthday is very easy. I say "DH, I want to go on a cruise for my birthday." What's not to understand about that?  DH says "Oh, I don't really care what you get me. I need under shirts."

Under shirts?

Anyway, I got into a complete panic as I do every year and of course, spent way too much.  I ordered him his favorite shampoo and conditioner that he never will buy for himself (Billy Jealousy - it smells fabulous) but of course I didn't get around to ordering it until last week. It will be here in two weeks. Crap.

So yesterday I went to Teena Hicks to buy him some stuff and then had to go to Hallmark to buy sh!t to wrap it in.  At this point, I have wasted $200 on sh!t he probably doesn't want or care to have.

Sigh.

  • Girl, I would have gotten him under shirts.  Then if he complained you could say, "That's what you told me to get you.  I guess next time you'll ask for something better."

That is EXACTLY what I would've done. Last year, H asked for a CD for his birthday - that's it - so that's what I got him. He got irritated with me, but I told him that's what he asked for, so that's what he got. Made him more cautious about what he asked for after that. :P

  • I guess I should have done that but...considering the extravagant items I usually request for my birthday I just think that's kind of.......rude, maybe?

Either way. He better love this sh!t.

Makes sense. I'm sure he'll love it. Is he one of those guys who doesn't really respond/react when you give him gifts? Or can you just tell when he opens his gifts if he loves/hates them?

I agree with both. My Hubs always tells me not to buy him anything and I am think um yeah right; there is no way I can do that (plus I would look like a horrible wife)  so I buy him clothes for stuff he never buys himself. All though I do buy him stuff he can use and if he did tell me something that is all I would buy him. :)

  • I feel your pain. I used to be the GURU of dh gifts, one year I got him a class ring, the next I threw him a surprise party and had a painting made of his favorite place in Italy (Perugia), then I finally got him a plane ticket (with a friend that I planned it with) to Spain to see a bullfight.

This year (birthday in October) I will give him $500 to spend at his leisure. Why so much? Well, he just got me tickets to Spain last week for Thanksgiving and I think he deserves a gift in which he can spend money ANY way he wants.

  • I think it's kind of adorable that he said he wanted some undershirts. :D

Happy Birthday!!!  Here's some undershirts, dude.

P.S. Thanks for the new wedding ring and cruise for my bday.

In the competition for "best wife ever" I am definitely in last place.

HA! That's too funny. You guys are so d@mn cute together, though.

  • I so would have bought him the undershirts. But that sounds like something I would ask for so I can relate to where he is coming from. If dh asks me what I want it's usually something practical. Like for our anniversary I asked for a gas powered weedeater. But I have the opposite problem with dh. He knows exactly what he wants and nothing else will do. So there is never any surprise in giving him gifts. It's really lame. I'm sure he'll like everything you picked out for him!

This describes DH and I perfectly.  He knows exactly what he wants, tells me, I get it, and there's no surprise Sad  But he's so damn hard to buy for so I guess I really prefer it this way.
I'm sure your H will like and appreciate everything you got him Smile
