How to clean the tub

What cleaning products/tools do you use to clean the tub? It's the worst part of the bathroom to clean!

Also, any ideas what's causing the rustiness at the drain? Our bathtub is only one year old.

Re: How to clean the tub

  • I don't mess around with our showers/tubs....I use bleach diluted with a little water.  We usually keep it in a spray bottle in the bathrooms and use them when we're cleaning.  I get grossed out by tubs/showers and knowing they've been bleached makes me feel okay to go in them...I'm weird, I know!  But it kills everything and makes it smell clean!

As for the rust....I'm not sure.  Do you have rust buildup in any other areas?  Do you have a cheap drain kit in?

  • I use Method le Scrub with a microfiber cloth. It works amazingly, it's EF, it contains borax so it's a disinfectant, and it smells like eucalyptus and mint so you aren't left with that nasty chemical/bleach smell.

The rust spot is probably a cheaper drain fixture combined with a low spot in your tub. When you're done showering, does all of the water drain or is there a little puddle left around the drain? If there's no puddle then it's probably just a cheaper fixture that you can replace with better quality. If there's a puddle, then you have a low spot. Check with whomever you used to install the tub to have it fixed.

  • I've dabbled with EF cleaners for tubs, but ultimately I keep returning to cleaners containing bleach.  They work and they work quickly and like the previous poster said, I need to know my tub and shower is clean.
