Best place to buy a new bed
We are mattress shopping and wondering where the best place to find a new bed might be? We are looking for a good deal & a great mattress set.
Also, if you can recommend your mattress that would be great.
TIA!
Re: Best place to buy a new bed
Go to the Original Mattress Factory. We bought a King sized pillowtop from them and it's SO comfortable and price was very reasonable. Since mattress firmness is a personal preference, you just have to go and lie on all of them to make a decision...that's what we did lol!
They make their mattresses by order at their factory in Fairfield (stores located throughout the city) and are the only ones that still make double sided pillow-top mattresses. This means you can flip it to make it last longer
. You can even sign up for email reminders that tell you when and how to flip your mattress.

Ditto OMF. My parents got my mattress there in 1995 and it's still comfortable (although we do need to retire it to the guest room!) They'll customize almost anything for you. For example, we need a split box frame for anyting larger than a full so we can get it up the stairs of our old house & they'll do that. They'll also make a low profile box spring if you have an older headboard/footboard that doesn't "fit" pillowtops. I want to get a king or two extra long twins (so dh & I don't wake each other up). The guy at the OMF in Dayton suggested buying the mattress with the firmness we like & then buying a separate memory foam topper to save a little money. I liked his honesty!
They have multiple locations but they make them in Fairfield. I think they'll let you look into the factory area there, not sure-it's been a while! It's down the road from Jungle Jims so IMO it's worth taking a day trip to Fairfield.
Online! Overstock.com has *great* deals on memory foam mattresses, and they ship to your door for $3 (or less, if you catch sales/promos). When I lived with my ex, we got a king size mattress for $400. Tempur-pedic wants around $3,000 for the same thing--don't let their salespeople tell you the knock offs aren't as good, it was just fine. You just want minimum 4lb density foam.
We got one of those, and a waterbed frame off of Craigslist, making our total new bed cost $500. Current BF & I are looking into doing the same, and if CL doesn't pan out, we're getting a frame from Ikea.
My Blog
We just bought this bed frame (king) off Craigslist for $600 (more than 50% discount).
As far as mattresses, I would be interested to read the replies; we need one as well!
We bought our king frame at Ashley with the rest of the furniture for our house. When we upgraded to a king, we got our mattress and box spring at Mattress Firm. We looked at OMF, but we weren't as impressed with the selection. Our mattress from Mattress Firm is heavenly. I can't tell you how much a good mattress improves your sleep habits. Everyone is different, so definitely shop around and find one that fits you.
Oh, and ditto getting a low box spring if you do get a pillow top. Our mattress is 22" thick, and if I didn't have the low box spring, there is NO WAY I could get into bed easily. It's high enough with the low box spring.
Same here. We took advantage of the March sales that they have and got a GREAT deal on something we absolutely love! Delivery and haul away took all of about 15 minutes and went exactly as scheduled.
