Question for ladies that have girls....

This might sound a bit odd and selfish but bc of my disease we are really trying to concieve a girl. She has a much larger chance of survival.

What were some things you did during TTC?

- sex before your ovulation?

- eating certain foods?

Im starting to research this and thats the things Ive read about so far...

Thanks for any advice.

Re: Question for ladies that have girls....

  • I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure that the sperm determines the sex of your future child and there isn't too much you can do about that. I'm thinking that anything that tells you to eat a special diet or certain foods really isn't legit.

I do wish you to best and hope you are able to have a girl!

  • I have heard the timing thing and I actually think there is a chapter on it if you have "Taking Charge of Your Fertility"... apparently the Y sperms (male) are faster swimmers but the X sperms (female) have more longevity. Or so I have read. So you would want to time it so that you are having sex a few days before you O. Which means you really need to know your cycles and understand the signals your body is giving out. I would try charting for a while and really paying attention to those things. I mean, it is a crapshoot mostly, but this could help swing things your way.

  • I know that the guy gives off the determination of the sex but I thought that what meagan was saying is kind of legit. I completely forgot on TCOYF. Ill have to reread some parts in that book. Thanks!

  • Although it is the guy who determines the sex of the baby, there has been research done that says that the farther a sperm has to travel the more better chance it is a girl.  When I got pregnant we did have sex before I ovulated, about 3 days before.  Although it is not guaranteed, if you are trying to get pregnant and hope it's a girl I would not have sex every day.
