Spam/Address selling

Apparently a campaign ad arrived at my old apartment addressed to me and our downstairs neighbor. The name on it is the same name as is on my license, which narrows it down as to where the address was bought. How the eff did they decide to address it to me and him, especially when we were divided by apt in the voter reg AND the registrar of voters had me down as a man?

Re: Spam/Address selling

  • I don't know the answer to your question, but I want to take this opportunity to tell you that I've been experiencing a weird FB glitch recently that displays the last letter of your first name as a V instead of a Y.  However, when I go to my own profile, the last letter of my first name still appears as a Y.

It could just be my computer monitor, I guess.  Or Mark Zuckerberg has joined the vast conspiracy to bastardize your name.

  • I think it's time to just give in and have your name legally changed to what's on your license.  And get a sex change.  Stop fighting it.

  • Cali is wise, but to answer your initial question, campaigns/elected officials can purchase the "rolls" from the DMV or the post office. It is how Congressman X can send you an update and how campaigns can send you lit.  Usually canvassers will go around to make sure they have your name spelled correctly, but not always in densly populated areas.
  • Oh, it wasn't a spelling error. It was that it was addressed to me and the neighbor, as though we were a couple. Or even lived in the same apartment.
