s/o @: another TMI for moms
So... um... about the tearing and stretching of your vagina... did things ever go back to normal in your married spot? Did intercourse return to normal? I'm resigned to the fact that my body will change, but I'm still worried about what will happen down there. Will sex still feel the same, or is it different? How long did it take for things to heal?
Re: s/o @: another TMI for moms
try to remember, most women deliver vag and have no issues at all -and are back to normal quite fast.
I, on the other hand, tore really badly. DS was pretty big and coming out a little crooked- and right at the end they had to push down on my belly to get him out - which tore the episiotomy I already was given... I had a 4th degree tear- front to back, into muscle.
things are still not the same. Sex is fine - but seriously- my butt is where the problems are... i don't have the muscle tone i used to have - so when i have to go i have to go NOW... and sometimes gas slips out- nothing i can do about it. Totally embarassing- but hey- that's what birthing a big headed, crooked baby does to a woman.
I'm having a c/s next time. I already spoke to a friend who is a colorectal surgeon and she recommended I not have any more vag births- b/c having another tear that bad could leave me totally incontinent!! WTF!!!
In Germany, all women are strongly encouraged (and I mean "strongly") to go to 8 weeks of training classes after birth that work on the Kegel muscles. It's paid for by the state and they say it's specifically for the incontinence issue. Again, don't know if that helps but that's the theory.
I read an article in the NY Times about this (except the author describes her experience in France). The state and private insurers also cover the cost there:

I got a second degree tear with my first child and had some residual discomfort for a couple months whenever DH and I had sex. Part of the issue was that I was also nursing, which means you develop what one nurse in my doctor's practice called "old woman vagina." Basically your vag mimics menopause while nursing. A little lube helps out with this.
With my second child, the first few times were a bit uncomfortable (again, I was nursing). By the fourth time or so, I was much better.
Now that I'm completely healed from both births, yes, everything is back to normal. :-)
