I am SO sick of clutter! I feel like I have clutter coming out of my ears and want to scream! New techniques are needed please.
What are your decluttering rules? Example: If I haven't used it in a year - throw/donate.
Re: Rules to Declutter
I try to do a 1 in 1 out rule for items. If I buy something new I need to get rid of something else similar.
For other things I just stop buying all together. It's hard when it's things you know you will use eventually (i.e. shampoo, etc but at some point you need to get through what you have first) or just plain like to buy (for me its candles, etc).
I finally tackled our candle obsession this year and actually donated a ton of new, never used, nice ones. I just wanted them gone and we don't burn them fast enough for how quickly we were buying them.
I also do the 1 in 1 out rule more so with clothes than anything.
Also, if you don't use it regularly, get rid of it.
Toss the junkmail as soon as you get in the door. And put a file system where you'll use it even if it is on your kitchen island.
Paystubs and certain tax documents exempted, if you can look it up elsewhere you probably don't need to save it.
You probably don't need more than 1 of anything most of the time.
If it's not functional or you absolutely love it, get rid of it.
Keep organized baskets of stuff that never looks good. Bills, magazines, makeup etc. It's easier to just toss in a basket so you're more apt to pick up.
Make your bed everyday, it'll motivate you to do other things. Same with wiping bathroom counters.
Take 3 Baskets and go around the house and with out putting in much thought passed "Do I love this item does it make me feel good?"
Then Sort into TRASH, PUT AWAY, and DONATE!
Pick a Number I use 21 and I wont stop until I have eliminated 21 items from my life. It was a slow process but I have gotten a handle on my clutter and now love my home and only have things in it I love!
