My Boss has just been diagnosed with Stage IV bone cancer, and is beginning treatments this week. Initially her prognosis was good, but as they are starting treatment it sounds like it may have spread more than initially thought. I feel terrible for her, and we are all covering for her at work the best we can, but everyone is pretty upset about it. She hasn't been at work this week, and I don't know if she will be in at all next week. It sounds like she got more bad news at a doctor's appointment this morning.
On top of that, my mother called me this morning to tell me that my sister's jerk ex-boyfriend hasn't been paying her for the furniture she bought while they were together that he's kept. The reason? Sister didn't send a birthday gift to his dogs. Because *that* makes sense. Sister is only 22, and obviously made a huge mistake trusting this guy (we all saw it coming), and now doesn't know what to do. Technically, her name is on all the bills - can she just show up with a U-haul and pick it up? I've never had to deal with this crazy ex drama before!
Gah! Can I go on vacation for a year until this all blows over?
Re: So stressed.
I'm so sorry! That is a lot to have going on all at the same time. I hope your boss responds well to the treatments and is able to be active and healthy soon.
As for your sister, she technically owns the furniture if it's in her name and she is still paying the bills for it. Do you have any friends or family members who are lawyers? Sometimes just suggesting that you are looking into taking action is all it takes to get a person to do the right thing. She probably could just go in and take the stuff back but I would be nervous about this guy getting revenge or something.
I am so sorry about your boss. It's so hard to manage the business and coverage side of things when there is the emotional side as well- I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers that she responds well to the treatment.
As for your sister, I would definitely start out with a certified letter stating either the amount of $ she is owed for the furniture and/or a date/time that it will be picked up from his home (although from the sounds of it I'd just go for the $, he might trash the furniture).
I would definitely google around to find out small claims court proceedings, etc. but it probably wouldn't come to that- you'd be surprised what impact a formal and legal sounding letter can have to get someone's tail in gear.
Oh wow, that's a lot. I am so sorry about your Boss - that sounds just terrible! Wow. :-(
And I'm not sure about the sister thing - but pp's have some good suggestions.
I say go for that year-long vacation. ;-)
