Could it be? A Delta rave??

Yes - believe it, it is!

Last night I was actually able to speak to a real and true human being when I called Delta's Customer Service line at 11 pm . . . Shocking!

Even better - I was able - over the phone - to merge two SkyMiles accounts. One is my current account with my married name but the other was my old, single-girl account with my maiden name from NWA days. According to the website, you have to send in (ie. snail mail) proof of name change (marriage cert.) and a letter requesting that the account be changed and then you have to send a separate merge request. Ugh. I didn't want to do all that so I called directly - and presto! a wonderful rep named Holly was able to do it all for me in about two minutes!

But wait . . . there's more . . .

After completing my merge, I challenged Holly with another task.  DH also has two accounts - a current one and an old one from our transatlantic dating days that was links to a now deleted email account - so we didn't know the number or anything.  I asked if Holly could find record of that account and merge it with his current account.  That sent us on a hunt through all sorts of British account records trying to find DH's.  After several failed attempts at an address search, I remembered that I had actually registered him and that the account was under my address.  She was able to find the account and was going to send us all the info to verify and then merge but in the middle of explaining all that we'd have to do, she paused and said "You know, all the info is right here in front of me and it all is valid, so why don't I just verify and merge them immediately."  Fine by me!!!

As an added bonus, she told us that DH has more than enough miles for a free domestic flight! Yay!!! I don't quite have enough (grrr - they changed the minimum from 25K to 35k), but I'll still be able to get a couple $100 knocked off a ticket, so not too shabby.

I never thought I'd say it but - WELL DONE, DELTA!!

Re: Could it be? A Delta rave??

  • That's awesome!  Holly sounds like she rocks at her job.  You ought to shoot an email to Delta letting them know she's a rockstar - it's always nice to know you made someone's day!
  • It really is a pity that good customer service is so rare and shocking - but YAY for Holly doing a good job!!  :-)

Thanks for the suggestion - I just posted a comment to their site!  Like Kiz said - these days good customer service is so rare, it deserves to be recognized and praised!

And can I also say - I am amazed that our miles are still good/active. They had been sitting in those old accounts for 5+ years! Considering that they are going to save us about $600 on an upcoming trip, I am VERY happy!! :)

  • My miles are still under my maiden name...but I can use them.  Weird?  It's good to know a quick phone call would take care of the switch - it seems they had more hoops than anybody to do a name change! (which is why I haven't done it in the almost 3 years since our wedding...)

Where are ya going to go with your free ticket?  :-)

Yep - almost five years married and I am just now doing this - it is so silly that they make it so difficult to switch! Rather than change my name on the account I just registered for a new account under my married name and planned to tranfer milies from my old account. I thought it would be so easy to transfer  . . but noooooo, they have to have proof of the name change to merge accounts (supposedly, but obviously I got around that) or if you want to tranfer miles between accounts, they charge you $.02 a mile! Robbery!!

I could have just used my old account, but now all my IDs have my married name and my ticket would have had my single name and I am sure some nit-pickety security person would turn me away even though my married name is just my single name plus DH's name. GRRR

Also, I found out - the hard way - that if your name doesn't EXACTLY match on your account and ticket, you don't get the miles. This really irks me considering the numerous LONG flights back to the UK I should have gotten credit for . . . that's probably why DH has so many more miles than me!

Oh well - what's done is done - and soon I will have everything one one account - yay! I wonder if that means Delta will stop sending emails to both accounts . . . I hope so :)

As for where we are going - Northern CA. My brother is having an engagement party and I've never met his fiancee or visited him there, so it will be fun! We have a few beach days planned so DH can surf, but then the rest is family time!
