My friend and I are going to make and can salsa in the next few weeks. I've never done any canning, whatsoever, so I need to go buy some jars. Where is the cheapest place to get canning jars? The ones I want are medium-ish (a pint maybe).

Re: Canning Jars
I usually find ours cheapest at Menards, Fleet Farm or Walmart. We typically use the quart jars though.
Have fun. We just made and canned homemade Spaghetti sauce last weekend with tomatos from our garden.
I might have a coupon for jars I would be more than happy to give you too. We still have more we haven't used, so we won't use it this year. I will look for it tonight and let you know. (hopefully now that I said something I will be able to find it)
I was at Big Lots in St. Cloud last weekend and they had some for $7. I don't remember how many were in the case though. I assume 12.
I think there are a few Big Lots around the Twin Cities..check them out.
Walmart may also have them?!
I have no idea what any of that means. All I know is she does this every year and she invited me to help this year. So, I'm assuming she knows what she's doing (and can teach me). I hope. LOL.
I found the coupon, and it expired in 2008. Sorry! Not sure why I was keeping it around for so long.
Hope all goes well with your canning.
If the acidity is high enough in the salsa, you can do a water bath process with it. I just did it this week! Recipe was from the Ball Canning Jar company so I figured that they wouldn't publish a recipe that would poison anyone. They are very very very specific about not altering the quantity of ingredients though.

Yep. My mom canned some salsa this week, and I was asking her what the difference was, because she's got two canners. She said that sometimes you have to add vinegar to the salsa to make it more acid, and she doesn't like doing that, so she pressure-cans it. But yes, you can do it in the water bath too.
