Small spots (like dots) on hardwood floors

Does anyone know where these are coming from on my hardwoods?  They are driving me bananas!!!!  I do have a dog but he is for the most part house trained (I think he might have had two to three accidents on the carpet while living here).  It is an older home but I can't understand where they are coming from.  Could it be mold?  They seem to cluster and some are bigger than others but they don't look anything like a pet spot (my dog is about 60 pounds) and they are just in really random areas of the floor.  Anything?

Re: Small spots (like dots) on hardwood floors

  • I have hardwood floors and I never see small spot-like dots. I think it might be mold but you can always see what else others might say.

Do you have a lot of moisture in the home?

  • Well currently there is a lot of moisture in the basement with all the rain and such that we have been having so I don't know if that might have something  to do with it.  I am clueless really, just looking for advice before I ask the professionals.
  • Three questions:

    What color are the dots?

Do they look like water marks?

Can you easily clean them off?

I'm not sure about the dots, but you should consider getting a dehumidifier for your basement.

  • We have these near our couches and found that during the day when our dog naps on the couch, his head leans over the armrest and his nose drips and forms the spots (not runny noes, just light drip but over the course of the day or days, it forms a little area of drips) - wipes clean with standard floor cleaner.
