call me crazy

I had previously mentioned that we are thinking about becoming a 1 car family, well... it takes us almost forever to put a plan in action. So, this coming week we are going to try our carpooling routine that we would have to do if we become a 1 car family. This should be interesting, but we we both agree that we need to try it out before we sell one of our cars.

Re: call me crazy

  • GL!! I hope it goes smoothly for you!
    Anniversary
  • That's really smart to try it out before you do it.  Good luck!!
  • GL! Let us know how it goes. G and I should totally try this out. It would save us a lot of money...but I could never see us doing it once we have kids.

This is something we've recently brought up, since I did a complete 180 and decided I do want to have kids (long story), but we decided that the financial gains are too good to pass up, even if we do have to get another car in a year or two.

  • We have two vehicles and Brian's Motorcycle.  Since I've started school, it's about 15 minutes further than Brian's work which is about 20 minutes away.  So, last week we car-pooled.  I drop Brian off at 5:55 a.m. and get to campus about 15 to 20 minutes early (after a pitt stop at Starbucks).  My first class is a 7 a.m. class, so it actually works for me.  However, I get done at 1 p.m. and Brian get's done at 2:45 p.m.  By the time I get to his work, I have about an hour to an hour and a half wait for him.  Not too bad, because I can get some homework out of the way.  :)  So for us, it's saved on gas $$ not taking two vehicles.

What would REALLY save us mork bucks is if I knew how to drive the motorcycle, because then we'd REALLY save on gas!!!  :)

I hope it works out for you Sarah!!!

  • Good luck and very smart idea to give it a trial run.
  • DH and I just sold my car and are down to 1 car now.  It has been a major adjustment but during the week he drops me off and picks me up from the train station so the only time I ever used my car was the weekends and that just didn't justify an additional payment.  We figure until we have a little one we will just figure it out and between the payment, insurance and gas/maintenance we are saving quite a bit a month.  Good luck with your change!!
  • Good luck. :-) That's a great cost savings if you can work it out.
