Weird FB post

So, a friend of ours just posted that his wife is PG.  He listed her EDD as May 5th.  I used a conception date calculator and got August 5 - 12th.  Does anybody else think it's REALLY strange to post of FB when you are 2 or 3 weeks PG?  How do you even have a EDD already?

ETA:  This will be grandchild #16 for his parents!!!

Re: Weird FB post

  • Maybe they did an online tracker thingy and got it wrong?  I don't know...I was on the phone waiting for my SIL's stick test to come out after she peed on it, so I guess it just depends on the person.  I found out before her husband did (he was sleeping).
  • Maybe they went off of the date they got the positive test and not the date of her last period.  Easy mistake to make if you haven't gotten it confirmed yet.  And like Tammy said, it depends on the person.  For some of my friends I've known from the day they found out.  For others I found out at 2-3 months.
  • My cousin told some people the day she found out - and then announced it on fb a week later. Her EDD is April 10 and this was a couple of weeks ago when I heard.
  • A girl I went to grade school with just annouced her pregnancy on FB with an April EDD and I thought that was really strange, too.  I personally would never annouce that early, but to each his own I guess.  I literally waited until I was 13 weeks and already had my NT scan before going public.
  • Yeah, I don't think it's weird to tell your family or close friends immediately after POS but I do think it's weird to announce to all of FB.

My SIL's sister miscarried at 14 weeks. My TTD photographer's wife lost her baby at 18 weeks. Waiting doesn't guarantee a healthy pregnancy. Both of them got an amazing outpouring of love and support when the announcements were made. Likewise my friend from HS who announced her pregnancy right away and then miscarried at 7 weeks got a ton of support and that's actually how we reconnected.  There are pros and cons to both scenarios, but I'd personally rather know what a friend is going through then be in the dark.  But if you'd rather not have people know about it or if you're a private sort of person who doesn't benefit from attention like that, I completely understand not announcing it!

RedShoeGirl was actually the one who made me decide I'll probably announce right away (after a doctor's confirmation, of course!).  She miscarried at 8 weeks, I think, and said the worst part about it was that no one knew because she didn't tell anyone.  Then later decided she wanted her parent's support and love and said telling them was very heartbreaking - you know, them she WAS pregnant after she'd already lost the baby.  So when she got pregnant again she told everyone right away and got all that love and support from the get-go which I'm sure helped her since she was feeling a bit uneasy in the beginning that things could go wrong again.
