I'm judging my friends

I just looked at pics on FB from a local concert that all of our friends went to (we had no interest in going...and weren't really invited anyway, but that's another vent).  There are pics of my BFF and another close friend with them poking each other's boobs and just being sort of inappropriate.  I am not a prude and have done some drunken shenanigans in the past, trust me.  But they are 30 & 32 years old now.

When does the going out and drinking and partying stop?  My BFF does not do this often as she has 2 kids, but most of my other friends go out every single weekend and drink.  Two of those friends have 2 & 3 school age children.  I can see going out once in a while, but every weekend seems like a lot.  It's not like they're having quiet nights, hanging out, it's usually full on drinking/getting drunk.  I love going out and having a good time, but I'm over the days of waking up with a hangover and having inappropriate pictures of me posted on the internet.  Maybe I'm just getting old...

Re: I'm judging my friends

  • I hear you.. sometimes it is DH's co-workers or our friends.. there are a lot of "just grow up already" moments.  Like pulling immature stunts at work or acting like a 2 year old.  I would expect more from parents - and when you put stuff like that on FB you never know where it will end up, so its one thing to do it on your own time, another to document it on FB.
  • I agree with you. That stuff just bothers me and then to put it on FB makes it even worse. We have a few friends who don't always act their age either and sometimes we just want to say "grow up!"

  • Ditto to all PPs. I like to have a few, but in my home, and def not on FB!

This is so true- I can't believe the stuff people put out there on FB and other sites sometimes. Umm...hi it's the worldwide web, not "your friends" web- those photos will never truly go away!

  • I could have written this post-it applies to both mine and DH's friends.  They didn't seem to get it when I was pregnant why I wouldn't want to stay out all night and basically watch them get trashed.  And when people who have kids do it, I definitely judge them.  Once in a while is one thing, but lots of times, it's an every weekend thing.

I feel like I outgrew acting like that a long time ago, like after I graduated from college.

  • I feel like drinking a little too much and being a little ridiculous is separable from the sharing photos of it on FB.

I'm definitely too old to be drinking & partying like I did in college, and too old to binge drink and wind up hugely hungover.  But I still enjoy indulging in a fun night every now and then, during the course of which I probably may say or do something that no big deal in context, but would not be so attractive reviewed in broad daylight.

To me, lacking the discretion when sober to avoid posting those photos is the most problematic.  It says "I still think it's cool to behave outrageously" and "I'm proud of/showing off how ridiculously drunk I got."  I wouldn't want to hang out with people who couldn't leave the moment in the moment.

    My thoughts precisely!
