Speeding ticket and traffic school

I got a speeding ticket Sunday night and it is a pretty big one.  I was going 57 in a 35 and it is going to cost me $189.  I have the option to go to traffic school, but don't really know what that will do for me.  The cop said something about keeping it off my record so insurance won't go up.  Do I also have to pay for traffic school and the ticket?  I got a speeding ticket last winter but before that haven't had any in a long time.  Is traffic school worth it?

Re: Speeding ticket and traffic school

  • My impression of traffic school, at least in Ohio, is that you can reduce the severity of the ticket or the number of points against you.  I doubt you can keep it off your record but it will probably have less of an impact on your rates.  I would do it, even if you have to pay for the class.  If you get a third ticket you could get hit with a bigger fine or more points than normal just b/c it's your third.

PS-hope you're doing good.  This board may be super slow but you're always welcome here!

  • In KY, I believe traffic school cost $15. They will mail you a letter to the address on your license and you choose the location you want to attend it at. It will keep the points from your license and help keep your insurance rates down. And you won't have to pay the fine on the ticket, just the court cost. Hope this helps.
