People amaze me sometimes

After catching up on the board and reading about Jamie's grandma (OMG Surprise) and what happened to boymom at Okura, I mean seriously!!!! People need filters and to not jump to conclusions about others.

On top of that, my baby shower was this past weekend and my aunt about sent me over the edge. The first gift I opened was homemade nursing covers...way adorable! So my aunt says, very LOUD, "oh so you're planning to breastfeed?" I said, yes I'm going to try. She asks for how long. I respond with I don't know, we'll see how it goes (I know it's not for everyone). She then says...well I didn't with either of my boys. Well good for you, do you want a cookie??? Which by the way, her boys are 28 and 30 now. THEN after a while, she starts unwrapping my gifts. Are you kidding me?? She also asks if she can be in the delivery room with me. NO!!! She use to be a nurse and thinks she knows all about EVERYTHING. She hasn't been a nurse in at least 10 years. She has been trying to play the "grandma" role this entire time. Let me tell you, she's got another thing coming. There is one picture where I'm holding a knife (for cutting the cake) and she's right next to me and it looks like I'm about to kill her. Haha! But I mean, really...why do people think they can behave like this and say whatever they want?

Re: People amaze me sometimes

  • Yes, people suck.  No one can be supportive of each other anymore.  Everything is a competition.  I often wonder why people can't be HAPPY for others and encouraging of their choices--regardless of whether they're the same choices you would make yourself.  Eff the haters, is what I say.

In the delivery room?  She's GOT to be fvcking kidding, right??

  • I think it is best to smile and nod when it comes to these people.

You will never be able to please everyone and everyone will always have a better way.  I think there will always be hot issues that will forever cause drama when it comes to building a family.  Take what you want and leave the rest of it behind, otherwise it will just weigh you down.

I am by nature a VERY negative person, I try to change it but it is almost impossible...  I try to be a bit more positive when I catch that I am being stupid.

As for the delivery room business, I would tell her to eff off...

  • I would have said something to her if she was unwrapping my gifts. WTF does that? And the whole delivery room business would have pissed me off also. Sorry she was such a douchewaffle at your baby shower.

  • Oh she quickly got a hell no response to that. It seemed to hurt her feelings, but I frankly didn't care. The thought of labor freaks me out anyway.

Bri - way cute cake for announcing your little girl!!! Do you have a name picked out?

  • Labor - A good friend of mine has reminded me many times...  Your body is made for labor, you can do it!  Just stay positive and don't let anyone stand in your way.  Wink

Thanks, I just knew we were going to be putting the tie on it, I spent no time picking out the little hairbow.  Yes she has a name, first to last it is 26 letters long... Everyone has an opinion about it too, but J and I are very happy with it.  Wink  Brynnleigh Alexandra

  • I've just decided some people suck and don't think before they speak....or they do think and decide to be idiots anyway.
A coworker of mine was telling me last week that her 26 year old sister wants to wait several more years to have kids...CW then says "I mean, she needs to get going on that b/c it's a lot harder to have kids when you're like 40".  Ummm...26 is the new 40??  I ended that convo and walked away.  Again, people suck.

Good for you for standing up to your aunt, she sounds like a real treat.  Hope you enjoyed your shower regardless of her crazy antics!

And Bri--you know I love the name Brynnleigh!  DH isn't a fan yet but if I convert him and we have a girl I'm totally "stealing" it Wink

That's the first I've seen the whole name.  I love it!  Even though it's long it flows really well!

  • wow, your aunt seems like a peice of work!  I can't believe she opened your gifts!
