s/o working beneath your education level
As most of you know, I'm somewhere between miserable and unhappy in my current position. I've decided to start a semi-serious job search in about 2 weeks and since I've resigned that federal judge or Supreme Court Justice aren't feasible 2 years out of law school, I want to expand it to include some areas where having a J.D. and/or law license might be considered an asset, even if not necessary for the position.
Any suggestions?
Re: s/o working beneath your education level
All, if not most, insurance companies have legal departments. I keep trying to get into my legal department but I am under educated for it. They want people with a JD or a license. I don't know if it is what you had in mind, but it may be worthwhile to check out Allstate/The Hartford/Prudential/Met life/etc. Granted, this is a weird time economically, especially for the bigname insurance companies. I don't know if this is an option in your area or not. I would put a profile up on Monster, if you haven't already.
I second the idea of something in the non-profit sector - higher ed in particular has a lot of possibilities in which a JD is an asset. There were several attorneys in the Provost office of my former university; I have a good friend who is a JD and works in the treasury office of a liberal arts college; grants management is actually quite interesting, etc.
FWIW I love working in non-profit, and ironically I feel like I have more job stability at present than I would have in the for profit sector.
Good luck - I've been miserable in a job and I would't wish it on anyone.
I am a runner, knitter, scientist, DE-IVF veteran, and stage III colon cancer survivor.
Hey Elizabeth,
Although I'm not a lawyer, I feel your pain. I am looking into alternative jobs for teachers. I searched the internet and found a couple of articles that may help you:
