It seems like everyone that I work with up here is an Aggie, I graduated from UTEP and was never into college football untill later on. So when I wear a burnt orange or any orange, it's because it was on sale. So whenever I wear an orange shirt, all the other engineers start making comments. I feel like I need to go get a maroon shirt to blend in with all the guys. But then that would be big time brown nosing the boss, isn't it?
Re: Working with Aggies
This is funny to me because after spending eight years on the UT campus, I have come to the conclusion that the A&M rivalry with UT is totally one-sided. UT really does not make a big deal of the annual football game or anything. UT students care much more about the rivalry with OU. I'm not sure how this all happened.
Anyway, I probably wouldn't buy maroon unless it's a color you like on yourself (maybe eggplant would pass?). Maybe they are just giving you a hard time since you are the new person.
its only one-sided right now because A&M has been bad at football for a number of years (although we are making our come back)!
When the Aggies play a decent game, suddenly UT fans care again... at least in my experience.
I don't get the whole rivalry thing either. But I did go to NMSU, so TX-Bride, apparently that makes us rivals. Or maybe UNM was our rival, not UTEP... I don't remember.
Just roll your eyes and ignore them when they give you crap. Like Austinmimi said, they're probably just doing it because you're new. It will get old after awhile and they'll (hopefully) forget about it.
I am loving my new job. We moved everything yesterday, so the apt is full of boxes! I can't believe how much crap we had in our tiny house! Dog is getting used to not having a yard, but we had an accident last week, where a neighbor's dog bit my dog, he attacked to kill, so poor puppy has bruised nack and a few stitches. It was such a nightmare, I avoid that side of the complex now.
Other than that everything is going well.
Seriously? I had PROFESSORS give me crap when I was taking my teaching classes there. And every time anyone in this town asks me where I went for my undergrad all I get is, "OH SO HOW'S FOOTBALL LATELY LOL LOL LOL!"
Plus, the one time I went to the game here in Austin was probably the worst experience I've had in years. People yelling absolutely awful, degrading things at me for no reason other than the color of my effing shirt. I've never heard fans act like that and I've been to tons of college football games.
It's definitely more intense on our side, but it absolutely isn't one sided.
Sometimes I pin stuff
I agree, it's not one sided. It's one sided with schools like Tech, who we have no rivalry with. Are we p!ssed about the game 2 years ago? Yeah, but that a rivalry does not make.
And I'm sad to admit we have some awful fans. I think the majority of our alum and students are pretty stand-up, but a good chunk of the undergrads (mostly drunk guys) are absolutely awful. That's why Mack's campaign last year was about sportsmanship. AggieDaner, I know how you felt. My first OU game was my last. I love me some college football, but I can't handle that kind of energy.
