So, I am selling my car.
I paid it off in February and ever since then I have been itching for a new one. I KNOW cars are depreciation mobiles but damn it! I am a car person. Anyway, I went to the dealership on Saturday to look at a new one and the trade in value they offered me on my car really surprised me. In fact, it got to me to thinking...(and this is nuts)...why don't I try to sell my car person to person to get the cash and use the cash to pay off a piece of DH's student loans...then lease a car instead of buying. I am someone that will never be without a car payment because as soon as one is paid off, I will be wanting another so leasing really is a better option for me...and these loans have a ridiculous interest rate....anyway, we put my car on craig's list and auto trader last night. I know its a crazy decision but please cross your fingers that I sell it. Getting rid of a portion of these loans would be a HUGE stress relief!

Well I wish you all kinds of luck! DH put my car on craigslist Thursday night around 9 pm and we had it sold to the people Friday evening around 7:00 pm. We met them at the bank Saturday to get our money.
I sold mine for a total opposite reason that you (I was DONE with payments) but I bet it won't take anytime and we ended up getting about 6K more than we would have by trading it in for my "new" car.
I hope you get enought to at least put a sizeable dent in the student loans.

So...how exactly do you avoid being carjacked while selling a vehicle on craigslist? When we're ready to sell I'd totally do it (not anytime soon), but I'm scared to death I'll end up like that couple in Norman at the Wal-Mart on the east side. Car-jacked!

I saw that. She said she wanted a sunroof and automatic locks. And doesn't it say in like big bold letters at the top of craigslist that things like that are scams. I didn't really feed that bad for her...

I laughed at this comment... Not gonna lie. I honestly got a bigger car for my dogs, not for my child. (That really makes me a crazy dog lady, huh?) Either of our cars (one 2 door, one 4 door) would have worked to haul a baby and her stuff OR the dogs but they did not allow me to make a run to the vet, groomer, park, parents, etc with two big dogs and a baby.
I can't blame you for laughing. I know it sounds crazy; but I have been unhappy with my car for a long time and really do not feel safe putting a baby in the back seat.
We all have our reasons and yes they may seem crazy to others but that just shows how different we all are and have a mind of our own.
I have a car for sale! Its very safe - one of the safest on the road! And its cheap! And gorgeous!
