Lutsen Resorts or other places to get away

DH and I always are needing a get away in the fall and we've looked into Lutsen for this year.  Most of the places require a 3 night minimum and we're only looking for 2 nights.  We've called Bluefin, Lutsen resort, and Caribou Highlands.  Anyone else have any suggestions?  Is there another place we can get away within 3 hours?

  • I've heard really good things about Bayfield, WI/Madeline Island.

  • Are you looking for labor day weekend? Most places will require 3 nights for the long weekend, but other weekends will let you do two.
  • Yeah, I've definitely stayed at Bluefin for two nights before... though it was in the winter time, not the fall.

We just got back from a wedding at Eagle Ridge Resort, and that was fun!  We've gone snowboarding there before but never stayed right at Eagle Ridge.  We had a nice, big clean room with a jacuzzi tub, and it was pretty affordable.  The hotel itself isn't particularly romantic (lots of activity in the area), but it was quiet at night, and it was fun to be able to walk to the alpine slides, the gondola to Moose Mountain (where the wedding took place), etc.  Not sure if they have all that going in the fall or not...

  • Chateaux Laveaux, Lutsen Sea Villas, there is a Holiday Inn and best Western too.  I know there are a couple smaller resorts that have cabin rentals as well.  Here's a good start...

Grand Marais is cute if you don't mind a little hike back to Lutsen (if that is where you'd like to be).

Bayfield is indeed cute like a pp mentioned.  small but there is a GORGEOUS bed and breakfast on the main drag.

  • We rent out our cabin in Amery, WI...its about an hour east of Saint Paul. We rent it out for as little as a day, a night...or whatever you are looking for.
